The September issue has always been a big deal for fashion, beauty, and entertainment. One of the best parts of these issues is the cover shoot because the looks are always a moment. Currently, I am obsessing over Cardi B’s Vogue Mexico cover where her brushed-out curls and blinding glowy skin made me fall to my knees.
Saying Cardi B looks stunning feels like an absolute understatement. Vogue Mexico posted the photos from the shoot on August 25 on its Instagram, and the very first image features the rapper in an all-black outfit with her hands on her hips and large, frizzy curls around her. “Su nombre lo conoces, ahora es tiempo de que sepas la historia detrás de la cantante dispuesta a seguir la tradición, mientras escribe su leyenda,” the caption begins. That roughly translates to, “You know her name, now it’s time to learn where the artist came from as she writes her own story.”

The moment I saw her brushed-out curls I thought of the iconic Diana Ross who is known for her hair as much as she is for her music. Cardi’s go-to hairstylist Tokyo Stylez clearly embodied the ethos of “go big or go home” while styling her hair. She gave Cardi a rough side part and left the frizzy curls around her covering part of her face and trailing all the way toward her hips.

Though she is wearing a full face of makeup, which was painted by her makeup artist Erika La’Pearl, you would think she just had a subtle winged liner, pink gloss, lip liner, and some mascara. But for this look, La’Pearl used all Pat McGrath Labs products, which she posted on her Instagram page, including the Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection The System (which includes thea primer, foundation, and powder), Skin Fetish: Highlighter & Balm Duo in Bronze, and Skin Fetish: Divine Bronzer in Nude Honey for the rapper’s base.
Using the Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner and PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil in Xtreme Balck, La Pearl drew the small cat eye. For the ombré lips, she lined Cardi’s with PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil in Structure and filled her lips in with Lust: Gloss in Flesh Astral.

This look is rather subdued for Cardi B, who is known for her jaw-dropping, bold style and beauty moments, but it’s just as beautiful as the rest. Head over to Vogue Mexico‘s profile to admire Cardi B’s curls and luminous skin in the rest of the photoshoot.
