Ariana Grande was overcome with emotion as she candidly spoke about her experience using lip fillers and Botox.
The 30-year-old ‘Thank U Next’ hitmaker opened up about her skincare and makeup routines for Vogue’s “Beauty Secrets” YouTube series which premiered on Tuesday (September 12).
During her makeup routine, the pop superstar got personal with fans about her beauty treatments, and why she decided to tweak her appearance over the years.
Grande spoke directly at the camera as she shared: “Full transparency, as a beauty person, as I do my lips, [I’ve] had a ton of lip filler over the years and Botox.”

The ‘7 Rings’ songstress revealed that she decided to stop getting cosmetic treatments in 2018 because she felt like she was “hiding.” She then paused as her eyes began to fill up with tears and insisted that she “didn’t expect to get emotional”.
“I, over the years, used makeup as a disguise or as something to hide behind,” the Wicked star admitted, adding that she also used hairstyles in a similar manner. “More hair, more and more, [the] thicker the eyeliner… and that can be so beautiful at times and I still do have love for it.”
The singer shared that her aesthetic has softened over the years because she started out performing at such a young age – meaning she was forced to see other people’s opinions about her.
“Being exposed to so many voices at a young age and especially when people have things to say about your appearance and stuff at a young age, it’s really hard to know what’s worth hearing or not, but when you’re 17, you don’t really know you don’t know that yet,” Grande explained.
As Grande gained more confidence in her appearance, her “intention” with cosmetics changed. She shared: “I don’t love [disguise] being the intention behind it anymore.
“I think of it as self-expression now and accentuating what is here. Our relationships to beauty are so personal, like we’re here talking about beauty secrets, isn’t the secret that we all just want to feel our best and be loved?”, she added.
While the ‘Break Free’ vocalist hasn’t ruled out having filler or Botox again in the future, she does not judge those who use it.
“To each their own, whatever makes you feel beautiful, I do support, but I know for me I was just like, oh, I want to see my well-earned cry lines and smile lines,” she said. “I hope my smile lines get deeper and deeper, and I laugh more and more. And I just think aging can be such a beautiful thing.”
Last April, Grande issued a rare statement on TikTok about the body-shaming comments she’s received on social media. In the viral video, she addressed fans’ concerns and discussed the mental health toll that such negative remarks can have on someone.
The ‘One Last Time’ singer pleaded with people to stop comparing her current body to the one they considered her most healthy body because it was actually her “unhealthiest version” as she was “on a lot of antidepressants, and drinking on them, and eating poorly, and at the lowest points of my life”.
She also asked viewers to be “gentler and less comfortable” when talking about anyone’s appearance, regardless of how “good or well-intentioned” it is.
“We should really work towards not doing that as much,” Grande concluded.
