Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s close call with sharks during filming in a dark shark area at 3:00 a.m. created tension on the set of Anyone But You.
The recent release of Anyone But You showed the steamy connection between Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. Even though it was a romantic comedy, its behind-the-scenes highlights as if it is an action-adventure saga.

Sweeney had already faced an eerie situation where a giant spider had bitten her. But it came to light that both Sweeney and Powell nearly became sharks’ food.
In the film, after falling into shark-infested waters, Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) sing to calm each other down, waiting to be rescued. After their boat incident, Bea and Ben sing Bedingfield’s song from the mountaintop to the Sydney Opera House.

Director Will Gluck (who co-wrote the script with Ilana Wolpert) shared the tense experience of shooting scenes in a large shark area at 3:00 a.m. for Anyone But You in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He said they wouldn’t initially give them “permission because it’s a huge shark area, and people get hurt by sharks all the time there.”
But later, they got permission to shoot. The director said every time an actor or stunt double filmed in the water, a large shark tank with a cage was placed around them to ensure safety. “A shark tank is these floating buoys with a cage,” Gluck notes. “It was a little bit scary and strange at 3 in the morning with our actors swimming into a shark tank, knowing that they’re at a place where sharks like to hang out.”
Shark consultants advised on safety to ensure best practices. As they knew, more activity attracts sharks. So, they had to deal with an increasing number of sharks during filming for the longer shots. Although no actors or sharks were harmed in making Anyone but You.

On The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the Euphoria star shared getting bitten by a spider while filming Anyone but You. She begins explaining, “So, it’s a Huntsman Spider, which is huge.” The 26-year-old then continued, “They told me it was trained. I don’t know how you train a freaking spider. There’s no way.”
In a scene from the film, Bea (Sydney Sweeney‘s character) finds a giant huntsman spider in Ben’s (Glen Powell‘s character) underwear. During the shoot, the spider became got antsy. And that’s how it bit the actress.
