Life is not ideal, and sometimes we have to work hard and wait a long time to reach the desired goal.

Dogs know this best, as many of them wait for the majority of their lives to find true happiness and a forever home.

However, sometimes when it seems that there is no hope left after a long and painful wait, the best things happen.

Today’s story will show you that hope really does die last.

Days Filled With Hopeful Anticipation And Crushing Disappointment

One three-month-old stray puppy was born on a dirty street. Bertha, or Bertachka, as they called her, was brought to a shelter and quickly captured the hearts of the people working there.

She just adored people and, whenever she could, she did everything to make them pay attention to her.

This cute dog was especially happy and cheerful when she saw potential adopters at the shelter. She would start wagging her tail and jumping excitedly around her potential owner.

But, every time, those people would just give her a bit of attention and then walk away, providing some other dog with a new, loving home.

As Bertha so desperately needed love and affection, every moment of rejection was very devastating for her. It was a pattern she had already gotten used to, and she slowly began to lose hope that it would ever change.

Love At First Bark

One morning, a mom, a dad, and their young daughter, Yumi, visited the shelter. Bertha, when she saw them, did make a happy face, but it was a sour smile, as if she no longer believed that anything positive could happen after so long.

And, so it seemed at first, considering that Mom and Dad completely bypassed the place where Bertha was. But, the third member of the family, their daughter, Yumi, not only stopped by Bertha’s side, but she also looked at her admiringly.

When Bertha realized how much love and attention this little girl was giving her, she could not remain indifferent. She started wagging her tail and was genuinely happy again.

“Mom, Dad, can we take her home? Please!” Yumi asked her parents out loud.

When Mom and Dad saw the two little girls looking at each other, they just smiled and went to the shelter staff. After filling out some paperwork, Bertha was finally coming home.

Finally, Bertha lives the life she deserved long ago. She and her big sister, Yumi, are going on long walks together, playing in the park, and snuggling on the couch.

Although she had lost hope that she would ever become a valued member of the family from a stray dog, Bertha’s story showed that the hope of love dies last only if you believe in it enough.
