On December 17, a dog risked his life to jump onto the tracks to save the life of his blind owner right before the subway arrived in Manhattan in New York City – USA.
Mr. Cecil Williams, 61 years old, and his dog Orlando were lucky to escape danger despite the train passing above them. This miracle brings an end to what has been a trying time since Mr. Williams suddenly became dizzy and fell onto the tracks while on his way to the dentist.
“Orlando tried to hold me back and save my life,” Mr. Williams said emotionally. When he fell, the dog did not hesitate to rush down after him.

Matthew Martin, who witnessed the incident, recalled that Orlando jumped down and tried to wake Mr. Williams up even as the train was approaching: “The dog kissed the owner and tried to pull him out of danger.” .
Witnesses alerted the train driver to slow down the train. Luckily, both of them fell into the ditch of the tracks and escaped death. Medical staff at the scene took Mr. Williams to the hospital and said Orlando was not seriously injured.
Mr Williams is still not sure why he passed out on the tracks but believes it may have been a side effect of the medication. Even though he was injured quite a bit, he still felt comfortable because he had his loyal dog by his side as a friend.
Mr. Williams has been blind since 1995 and Orlando is his second guide dog. It will “retire” on January 5, 2014. His health insurance does not cover the cost of raising Orlando when he is no longer “working” so Mr. Williams will have to find a good home for him. He sadly shared that if he had the money, he would definitely keep Orlando.
