When Joey Maxwell and his partner first encounter Maverick, they find him in a rescue center, emaciated and weak. They decided to adopt him. Maverick became part of their family bringing them six years of joy.
But some time ago Maverick was diagnosed with cancer. Determined to support their comrade, Maxwell left no stone unturned in his battle against the disease. The first round of chemotherapy showed results. Unfortunately, the disease resurfaced two months ago, leaving Maverick unable to walk.
In an effort to make the Mavericks’ remaining days as enjoyable as possible, Maxwell made the decision to take him on camper rides. Little did they know that this simple act would have an impact on the Mavericks’ health.
“When we take him on these trips,” Maxwell told CBS News, “he barks at everyone who passes by until they shower him with affection because he believes the whole world exists solely for the purpose of loving him.”
Maybe he was right. The overwhelming outpouring of love and support that Maxwell and his furry companion receive is truly unimaginable. As proof of this connection between humans and animals, after sharing their story, Maxwell received a 50% discount at Lowes as he and the cashier were moved to tears. People in their community are now celebrating Maverick. Get close to him just to show their love.
Mav really loves those lifts.. maybe that’s why the dog is getting stronger every day.
“We are in a position because we understand how important Mav is to so many other people now and we can feel that love in return.”
The culture exhibitionist is now feeling the emotions as he is able to sit on his own and is getting stronger with each passing day!
