It’s always heartbreaking when a dog is left behind and abandoned. It’s really cruel how some pet owners can dispose of their companions as if they are absolutely worthless.
There was recently an incident at the airport where a dog was intentionally left behind by its owner just to catch a plane. The unfortunate incident occurred at Pittsburgh International Airport, where a 7-year-old French bulldog was discovered in a stroller.
Officers from the Allegheny County Police Department immediately arrived at the scene. I tried to contact the dog’s owner through his microchip. Unfortunately, their attempts were not successful.
It soon became clear that this abandonment was intentional. Investigators discovered that the owner had previously been told that her dog could not travel with her without being in a crate. According to Insider, although the owner claimed the dog served as her support animal, airport staff remained unconvinced.
Furthermore, investigators stated that there was no emergency and that the woman was traveling to what appeared to be a vacation destination.
“We were able to confirm that on that day the owner of the dogs tried to fly with him but was denied boarding due to the lack of a cargo container,” the sergeant explained. Jason Donaldson of Allegheny County Police in an interview with WTAE. “As a result, she chose to abandon her companion. She continued on her planned journey.”
It’s hard to believe that someone would make the decision to leave their dog behind like that. Unfortunately, stories like this are all too common. There have been cases where dogs have been abandoned at airports by their owners.
County police have reached out to the state dog sheriff for the dog to be safely detained as noted in a Facebook post by Allegheny police. Fortunately, reports indicate that the dog is in good health and is now in the care of Animal Friends. Unfortunately, there are no details regarding the dog’s current condition.
Animal Friends released a statement via CBS News indicating that they cannot comment on details or provide information about the dogs’ health due to the investigation. They stated that Humane Society police officers are actively looking into the case and considering charges.
Until this matter is resolved, Animal Friends will continue to provide treatment and supportive care to the dog while they remain in their care.
According to law enforcement officials, animal abandonment charges are expected to be filed against the owner by a dog guard in Pennsylvania. According to state laws, giving away a dog is considered an act of animal cruelty.
It can result in fines of up to $1,000.
The story really caught people’s attention online. Many are showing their sympathy for the dog while also condemning its former owner. Some individuals have even shown interest in providing a home for the dog.
“I think it would be better for the dog to find an owner,” expressed one commenter. “Such a sad state of affairs for this creature.”
It’s truly heartbreaking to think that someone could abandon their dog like that. We sincerely hope this adorable dog will soon find a chance at happiness while his former owner faces the consequences.
