Drake on Saturday dubbed Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj the greatest rappers of all time as he took the stage at the Young Money Reunion Tour at Budweiser Stage in Toronto.
The 35-year-old Canadian superstar said, ‘It’s the greatest city in the world – I’m standing onstage with the greatest rapper of all time,’ referring to Lil Wayne, 39.
The God’s Plan performer, whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham, continued: ‘And I’m standing onstage with the other greatest rapper of all time, she’s over there with the pink hair.’
The Toronto native lauded Minaj, 39, adding, ‘By the way, like, are these b****** serious? Like, nobody can f*** with Nicki. She’s like the originator – it starts here, ends here, all that s***.’
At the show – which marked the first OVO Fest in two years – Minaj hailed her Young Money Entertainment colleagues, saying, ‘When you’re at the top, and you always remember your motherf***ing family – that’s character.’
The highly anticipated Young Money Reunion marked the first time in seven years Drake, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj shared the stage.
According to The Toronto Star, the show had an 8 p.m. start time, and at 9:50 p.m., a graphic on the screen read, ‘Unfortunately, Lil Wayne had issues at the border,’ followed by a line that read, ‘Luckily, Drake runs the border.’
Lil Wayne then took the stage and performed tracks such as Mrs. Officer, Rich as F***, Loyal, Steady Mobbin and A Milli.
Minaj performed a 20-minute set with tracks such as Beez In The Trap, Chun-Li, Hold Yuh (Remix), Crocodile Teeth and Superbass.
Drake appeared onstage at 10:45 p.m. and played a 45-minute set that included performances of Calling My Name, Marvin’s Room, Sticky, Too Sexy and Knife Song.
The trio then appeared on the stage at around 11:30 p.m. for a half-hour set that included tracks such as Up All Night, The Motto, Moment For Life, HYFR and EveryGirl in the World.
Drake in the set credited Lil Wayne for his support earlier in his career after he gave he and his mother $30,000.
He told Lil Wayne, ‘That’s the most important amount of money I’ve made in my life to date – you’re the most important man to each and every one of us. You are truly the most selfless man on planet earth.’
The high-profile appearance came after Drake earlier this month revealed he contracted COVID-19 for the second time.
The rapper on Monday announced he had to reschedule the highly anticipated Young Money Reunion show that was set to take place on at his OVO Fest in Toronto, after he tested positive for the virus.
He told fans he was ‘truly devastated’ in his lengthy statement, which he shared to his Instagram stories Monday morning.
Drake’s COVID-19 diagnosis marks the second time he has contracted the virus; he had COVID-19 for the first time in summer 2021.
Drake wrote: ‘I am truly devastated to say that I tested positive for Covid and the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for tonight is being rescheduled to the SOONEST date possible.
‘I will keep the city posted and share the new date whenever we have it locked.’
He added: ‘Until then I hope everyone everyone stays safe and healthy and I love you all I am so sorry for letting you down on our weekend together and the moment I test negative I will give you everything I got on stage (except the Covid),’ adding a sad face emoji.
Just days prior to his COVID-19 diagnosis announcement, Drake performed with Nelly Furtado at his OVO Fest in his hometown of Toronto.
Nelly sang her classic hits I’m Like a Bird and Promiscuous with Drake singing along.
Drake had COVID-19 for the first time last year, as he revealed he had the virus in August 2021 on a fan account.
He divulged the information after the account shared snaps of him rocking a shaved heart into his head – with only a faint heart visible.
Drake wrote in the comments: ‘I had Covid that s**t grew in weird I had to start again,’ adding a laughing emoji.
‘It’s coming back don’t diss,’ referring to the faintness of the heart shaved into his very short hair.
The artist shared the image to his Instagram stories five days prior, which the fan account reposted to their page.
The image showcased his most recent haircut with the heart, a trend began sporting in November 2020 in anticipation of his album 2021 Certified Lover Boy.
Drake is dad to son Adonis, four, with former fling Sophie Brussaux, who is a former adult film star.
Back in October 2017, Sophie gave birth to his son Adonis; Drake and Adonis share the same birthday – October 24.
Drake finally confirmed rumors that he fathered a child with the former porn star in several songs on his 2018 album Scorpion.
