Miley Cyrus is one of the most successful and widely recognized artists in the history of the music industry. Though she rose to fame through her work in projects like Hannah Montana, The Last Song, So Undercover, and Lol, she established herself as a truly talented lyricist and singer, having some extremely well-known and loved songs like Flowers, Wrecking Ball, and Party in the U.S.A. as well as having some extremely well-doing albums over the course of her career.
The music industry is no stranger to internal feuds, with almost every artist that exists within it having some or the other public disagreement with another artist. Cyrus is no different in this, having seen her fair share of conflicts. A particular one, however, was much more public than the others and involved the queen of rap, Nicki Minaj

“Not to sound like a bitch, but that’s like, ‘Eh, I didn’t get my VMA.’ If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: ‘This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type,’“
She elaborated on this, stating that she understood if Minaj wanted to be nominated for the sake of other women of color and what it meant for her to win an award such as this. She, however, thought that it was not right that Minaj inserted herself into this and made it about herself.

Nicki Minaj’s Very Public Response To This
Nicki Minaj was not at all happy about what Miley Cyrus said about her in the press. The artist voiced exactly this, on stage, at the VMA awards ceremony. This gained immense media attention for many reasons, including the fact that the rap artist cussed at Cyrus in the middle of an award show. She even talked about this more in-depth later on, mentioning exactly what about the Hannah Montana star’s comments made her upset.

“The fact that you feel upset about me speaking on something that affects black women makes me feel like you have some big balls. You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important? Come on, you can’t want the good without the bad. If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us, have fun with us, twerk with us, rap with us, then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us. You shouldn’t not want to know that.”
Minaj revealed to Time Magazine her reason for this was the fact that she did not like the fact that Cyrus was only concerned about people of color when she was enjoying their culture and not when it came to the things and issues that directly affected them. The artist added that she thinks this sort of mindset to be extremely unfair.
