The 417-foot sailing yacht Koru has apparently been delivered to Jeff Bezos, the millionaire founder of Amazon, following the completion of her initial sea testing. The magnificent superyacht was constructed by Oceanco and given to Mr. Bezos; reportedly, she has just finished her first journey.

The enormous three-masted schooner set sail on April 6th, 2023, from the Netherlands to Gibraltar after completing sea trials in the North Sea back in February. The ship is currently seen anchored in a harbour in the city of Palma, which is located on the Balearic island of Mallorca.

Last year, Koru was moved via the Dutch canal system from the shipbuilding facility in Alblasserdam to Rotterdam. When word spread that Oceanco planned to temporarily demolish a historic bridge, residents of Rotterdam threatened to throw eggs at each other in large numbers. The boat was taller than the 131-foot limit of the bridge, therefore this maneuver was made to clear a path for her to pass. But in order to avoid detection, a different route was discovered, and the boat departed in the middle of the night.

The sailing yacht Koru, formerly known as Y721, is distinctive in many aspects. She is the tallest sailing yacht in the world, surpassing Sea Cloud, a 357-foot Cox & Stevens sailing ship built in Germany in 1931 that is still in operation today as a luxury charter yacht and cruise ship, and has three towering masts that measure over 230 feet (the same height as the Great Pyramid of Giza).

By surpassing Black Pearl by 69 feet in overall length, the launch of this vessel also moved her from third to fourth position on our list of the biggest sailing yachts in the world. This places Koru barely below Sailing Yacht A, the current heavyweight champion, who continues to hold the top spot on the list of largest sailing ships in the world (although actual sailors distinguish Sailing Yacht A as a sail-assisted vessel).

The obscenely massive boat is among the largest private yachts in the world and the largest ever constructed in The Netherlands. She is also among the most expensive private boats ever built and purchased. It’s important to note that the yacht has a startling $485 million price tag, which is a high cost even for the extraordinarily affluent Mr. Bezos.
