NBA Zach Edey and Victor Wembanyama

American fans and scouts are fans of players with disproportionate physique, Victor Wembanyama being the ultimate proof of this. Displaying the same size as the French prodigy, a certain Zach Eddy is also in the process of building up a huge hype in the university championship. The images are quite creepy.

The NBA has certainly been dominated by point guards and/or wingers for several years, but basketball remains a sport for adults. This can be seen in particular in the media attention paid to the giants of the courts, like Victor Wembanyama since his rookie debut. Before him, Chet Holmgren and Bol Bol had also generated great enthusiasm… and the next phenomenon could be called Zach Edey.

A starter at Purdue in the NCAA, the pivot is a true giant since he measures 2m24, the same height as Wemby. And the least we can say is that he wreaks real carnage on the university floors. Recently opposed to the renowned Alabama program, he destroyed the opposing racket with 35 points at 60% shooting success in 37 minutes, all while giving an incredible impression of domination:

The colossus Zach Edey destroys everything in the NCAA

Zach Edey has made notable strides with his frame, mobility and conditioning, helping him post career-high shot-blocking numbers for Purdue and look more comfortable guarding in space. Announced in 32nd place in the next draft by ESPN, the Canadian is averaging nearly 25 points and 11 rebounds while the Boilermakers won 9 of their first 10 games. Because of his atypical physique and the evolution of the game, there are obviously doubts about his ability to survive in the NBA. But his biggest fans are convinced that he has a chance, in particular thanks to a certain Frenchman:

Let’s be honest here Jonathan, he has a place in the NBA now that Victor’s in it.

Let’s be honest Jonathan (Givony), he has his place in the NBA now that Victor is there.

This dude will fit into any NBA system. The kid is unreal conditioning and can rim run at any tempo. He isn’t some plodder. Just destroyed Alabama playing 35 minutes at the fastest pace you’ll see in CBB.

Does Zach Edey have a future in the NBA? Impossible to say with certainty at the moment. On the other hand, it is difficult to see a franchise ignoring him in the next draft, especially if he is still available in the second round. This would give him the opportunity to face Victor Wembanyama one day, quite a Titans clash in prospect.
