College basketball fans were stunned after a controversial call late in the LSU vs. Northwestern State game led to a bizarre sideline spat from coach Kim Mulkey.

The 61-year-old LSU Lady Tigers coach had to be held back by star Angel Resse after being ejected from the game for arguing with the referees.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter with just under five minutes remaining in the game on Sunday while leading 71-30.

Tigers guard Aneesah Morrow received a pass from her teammate on the fast break and appeared to get fouled and score off a made layup.

Except the official called a charge, which sent Mulkey into outrage, and she ran onto the court to argue the call with the referees.

The officials quickly hit Mulkey with two technical fouls for her action, as Reese came over to hold her coach back before other teammates and assistant coaches took over for her.

College basketball viewers quickly rushed to social media to express their thoughts, with many having mixed opinions.

One said: “Absolutely horrible call. Moving sideways and backwards to get in the way.”

Another: “Totally agree with Coach Mulkey the defensive player was moving. Referring is far from consistent this year. I saw it in college football a lot.”

A third thought it was a bad look: “She’s winning by 41 points with 4 minutes left in the game. The call could have been a blocking call, but – sit down, coach!”

And fourth stated: “Up 41 with less than 5 mins to go, just sit down instead of making a spectacle, especially as the ref got the call right!”

LSU would go on to finish the game with a dominant 81-36 victory over Northwestern State, and Mulkey and Resse spoke after the game about the moment.

Mulkey clarified that she dared the official to toss her out of the game as it was the first time she’d been ejected since becoming LSU’s coach in 2021.

“I think I helped him. I said, ‘I’m not leaving, so you’d better toss me,” Mulkey said.

Meanwhile, Reese expressed that she enjoyed the moment.

“It was fun.

“We know she has our back, and we have her back,” Reese said.

LSU has won 11 games in a row after being upset in their first game of the season by Colorado.
