The Kardashians star Kim Kardashian’s infamous 2007 sex tape is back in the headlines. Ray J, Kim’s ex-boyfriend, is threatening to sue Kim (and her mother, Kris Jenner) for leaking his and Kim’s sex tape, and blaming it on him. Ray claims that Kim and Kris were both behind the release of the sex tape back then. Later, the mother-daughter duo started to blame the leak on Ray J, making him look like the bad guy. However, amid all these revelations, fans started to look at the previous episodes, and were shocked by Kris from KUWTK’s revelation.

Ray J and Kim started dating in 2002, and presumably filmed the sex tape on their 2004 trip to Cabo. The recording, called “Kim Kardashian Superstar,” was released on March 21, 2007, by Vivid Entertainment. The founder of that company stated that the deal was not done by Kim or Kris, but according to the contract, Kim and Ray had to sign a deal before the tape could be released. As KUWTK took off, the sex tape faded into obscurity. However, it was occasionally brought up on the show.

When the very first episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians aired, Kim’s sex tape was discussed multiple times. Everyone had an opinion about the racy recording, in terms of why it was filmed, how it was leaked, etc. Nonetheless, when viewers heard what Kris Jenner said on the show about Kim’s sex tape, they were shocked. Kris commented on the adult tape while talking to LA Times, stating, “When I saw Kim’s sex tape, as a mother, I wanted to kill her… But as her manager…” This legendary line says it all. The sex tape was discussed again on the popular Hulu show, The Kardashians, where it was again a part of the storyline. In The Kardashians season 1, episode 2, Kim was seen crying when she received the hard drive from Kanye West, which contained the unreleased footage of the infamous sex tape. Fans think that the Kar-Jenners don’t want to move past the notorious sex tape.

These past lines of Kris’, and recent comments from Ray J, have convinced fans that the sex tape was released intentionally. They think that Kim and her momager Kris were involved in getting the tape on the market. Ray J’s statements came after Kris took a lie detector test on The Late Late Show with James Corden, and denied leaking the sex tape. According to Ray J, three sex tapes were shot, and Kris reviewed all of them. She picked the version that would be released by Vivid.

The multiple discussions of Kim’s sex tape in previous Keeping Up With the Kardashians and The Kardashians episodes have made fans think that Kim and Kris might have been lying about the sex tape for years. The mother-daughter duo tried to portray Ray J as the ultimate villain in this picture, and blamed it all on him. On the other hand, Ray J, who doesn’t want his reputation to be ruined by false rumors, is speaking out to try and clean up his image. As a result, Kim’s sex tape drama is being revisited, 15 years after it started.
