Meghan Markle appeared with Misan Harriman and David Oyelowo to moderate a screening of a new Netflix short film.
Meghan Markle appeared “tense” at a public event just days before Omid Scobie’s book Endgame was published, which she has so far declined to comment on.
The Duchess of Sussex attended an event hosted by Netflix, as she moderated a special screening of the platform’s new short film The After, alongside the film’s star David Oyelowo and director Misan Harriman.
Body language expert Judi James told The Mirror how the Duchess looked “tense” and “low-key” while sat on stage, despite being with her friends.
Dressed in a smart brown suit, Meghan attended the screening on November 15 in a private residence in Montecito, California, close to her own family home.
Ms James said: “We shouldn’t underestimate the effort Meghan is putting in to look poised and confident here, but despite that I think she still ends up looking tense.”
Sharing a post of the occasion on Instagram, Meghan’s pal Misan Harriman said it was “extra special” to have the Duchess and “so many of my film idols watch this film”.
The project marks his directorial debut, as the 18-minute film tells the story of a London man called Dayo who witnesses a horrific attack and finds his life forever changed.
The body language expert also noted how Meghan’s outfit and shoe choice had made an impact on how she appeared, saying: “Director chairs are notoriously difficult to sit in, with just a small foot ledge that only works if you’re either very tall or wearing flat casual boots but Meghan is [wearing] neither, meaning her elegantly folded legs and the way her feet are positioned in her heeled shoes would have required some thought and effort.

“Her brown outfit looks deliberately low-key and her overall pose is an unusual one for Meghan when she appears on any stage. Meghan is such a keen and talented speaker she is normally showing the look of a coiled spring, waiting to speak.”
Meghan wore a jacket she has not been spotted wearing in public before, a brown wool blend blazer by Valentino, which she teamed with matching brown trousers and a roll-neck jumper in a similar tone.
She seemed to be continuing her love affair with neutral colours and classic styles, as she accessorised the designer suit with asymetric black velvet leather pumps by Giorgio Armani and her Logan Hollowell ‘Leo’ constellation ring.
The ring was an especially fitting choice, as Meghan’s birthday is August 4, making her a Leo.
The look was popular with royal fashion fans, as one commented on Instagram: “She oozes sophistication from head to toe and down to her nail polish”, while another added: “Always so chic and timeless.”
In spite of her power suit, Ms James believes Meghan felt rather more “pensive”, explaining: “Here though she is purely in quiet listening mode, with not just her legs crossed in a barrier but her hands folded on her lap, too. Her facial expression looks pensive, with a rather sad eye expression.
“When she does unfold her hands it’s the gesture they form that really suggests some inner tension. Her fingertips touch each other point-on here, which is a polite-looking precision ritual without any trace of feelings of relaxation.”
