Deformed Dog Gets Ignored Because Adopters Think He’s Hideous, But This Woman Loves Him So Much And Gives Him A Happy Life Despite His Rare Genetic Disorder
All dogs are gorgeous. It doesn’t matter if they have special requirements, permanent scars, or untraditional characteristics, they are still lovely animals that need to be treasured. One dog, named Walter, was overlooked and left behind at a shelter. The reasons why the dog was overlooked (many times) crushed a specific animal lover’s heart. The animal enthusiast, a lady named Gabby, was already at the shelter rescuing another dog when she was invited over by a volunteer to meet Walter.
The volunteer remarked, “Hey Gabby, you’ve got to see this dog!” The volunteer knew that Gabby rescued dogs with special needs and thought she might be able to assist Walter find a forever home. As soon as Gabby lay eyes on the odd pup, she knew he was anything from average. She had never seen a dog that was this tiny or with such a severe underbite. He also had evident malformations to his legs and spine. Gabby didn’t care. She wanted to hold Walter and introduce herself.
Gabby recognized that Walter wasn’t simply unusual and special to her, she also realized the cold hard reality. Walter would be very hard to place because of his special requirements and he’d either languish at the shelter for a long time or be put down. Most folks grimaced as they passed by Walter’s kennel. Several individuals thought the dog was simply plain ugly. But not Gabby! She thought he was wonderful.
The kind-hearted woman realized right there that she had to take Walter home and adopt him herself. Gabby quickly overlooked the dog’s “flaws.” To her, Walter was immaculate. It didn’t matter that he didn’t look like other dogs or that he wouldn’t live a long life; all that mattered was that he was capable of love and Gabby was capable of giving him a nice existence.
Walter has a rare genetic disorder called mucopolysaccharidosis, often known as MPS VI. Regrettably, it is a fatal progressive condition. So even if Walter may not have a long life, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t have a nice life. When Walter went home with Gabby, she could sense straight away that he’s remarkable. He’s joyful all the time. He’s resolved to walk (and even try to run) as much as possible. Even though it’s hard on his body to go around, not much stopped Walter. And Gabby liked that!
Originally, when Walter got home, Gabby focused on physical rehabilitation in a little kiddie pool. Walter loved it. And the water strengthened his physique considerably. Soon it was time to take on the yard. Walter didn’t let anything slow him down, especially going as fast as he could to get to his mother who cheered him on the whole time.
Gabby traces her closeness with Walter to her father who passed away from Multiple Sclerosis. She reveals, in the video below, that near the end of her dad’s life, he was similarly handicapped but remained extremely strong. This gave Gabby a whole new perspective on humans and animals that experience such challenges yet demonstrate such persistence. Seeing Walter and his upbeat attitude reminded Gabby of her father. Her dad was the exact same way.
