Liverpool transfer news, rumours, gossip and speculation including the latest on FSG investment, Bruno Guimaraes, Jarrod Bowen, Raul Paula, plus reaction to last night’s Carabao Cup win over Leicester City and round four draw against Bournemouth

Hello and welcome to our LIVE Liverpool transfer blog for Thursday, September 28.

The Reds secured their place in round four of the Carabao Cup in familiar style last night. Opponents Leicester City stunned Anfield with an early goal, however second-half strikes from Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota completed a 3-1 turnaround – the fourth consecutive win of this nature.

This put Jurgen Klopp’s men into the pot to be drawn for round four, where they discovered next up will be a weeknight trip to the South Coast to face Bournemouth.

Aside from the action, the transfer rumour mill remains active. Liverpool have allegedly sent scouts to watch 19-year-old Germany and Stuttgart talent Raul Paula, though so have Brighton. New Manchester United loan signing Sofyan Amrabat has also denied suggestions he was close to joining Liverpool before eventually transferring to their fierce rivals.

Liverpool secure minority investment as FSG make statement

New York-based Dynasty Equity have taken a small minority in Liverpool Football Club.

The move is designed to clear the Reds’ bank debts but not fund transfer market activity.

Since November 2022, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have created a sales deck to present to potential investors but the news sees FSG reaffirm that they are not looking for an exit route from the club.

‘I have to say wow’ – Jurgen Klopp left speechless by Curtis Jones

Jurgen Klopp was delighted by Curtis Jones’ showing at right-back as the academy graduate was handed the captain’s armband.

“Yesterday [Tuesday],” replied the Liverpool boss when asked at one point he had informed Jones that he would be captaining his boyhood club for the first time since February 2020. “When I told him he would play right-back, same moment. I sold the right-back idea with the captaincy, let me say it like that. But he was already completely excited when I told him he would be right back.

“The way he executed it was super special I have to say wow. Super smart. We thought about him because we couldn’t play Stefan [Bajcetic] long, we have to be careful with him. Joey [Gomez], will be okay for the weekend but was not okay for today.

“For Trent, it’s too early so we need to find solutions. Curtis was always in my mind as a potential solution because he is football-smart. He enjoys being on the ball and the deeper you are, the more often you can get the ball.”

Elaborating on Jones’ mature showing, which helped Liverpool set up a fourth-round tie at Bournemouth, Klopp added: “It was a top performance, I have to say, for the first time for him in a strange position, he did really. I liked it a lot.

“He is in a good moment so he could probably play any position at the moment. We will try to use him as often as possible in his natural position.”

Ryan Lowe issues promising Calvin Ramsay update after injury troubles

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe is hoping that Calvin Ramsay will return to Deepdale in the “next couple of weeks”.

The Reds defender suffered a setback in his recovery from injury and was further sidelined which forced him to return to the AXA Training Cente for rehab.

He didn’t feature for the Lillywhites and is still awaiting his bow for the Championship league leaders.

Lowe said: “We’ve had some good news on Calvin. He is at the back stage of his rehab now. We are in discussions with Liverpool and hopefully he’ll be back with us in the next couple of weeks.

“We are not going to rush him back but if we can get him back in the building with us in the next couple of weeks, we will. Once he’s at the end stage of rehab and passed all the protocols, ticked all the boxes, he’ll then be with us.

“I haven’t got a definite date just yet, just that we’ve had some conversations with them in the last few days and it is looking promising.”

“This is my dream and I’m enjoying it”

Wataru Endo says it is an exciting time to be apart of Liverpool as he says he is ‘living the dream’.

The Japan midfielder started against Leicester City and enjoyed a strong second-half display as the Reds pushed to overturn their one-goal deficit.

Endo detailed the change that Jurgen Klopp is eyeing in his game.

He told The Athletic: “The system is different, the game is faster and my position here is a little bit higher than it was.

“The manager doesn’t want me to just stay in front of the defenders. I have to go higher and try to get the ball all the time.

“Here we have to win every game, but I don’t feel pressure as a result of that. I am humble, but I have the mentality that I’m here because they believe in me. It’s exciting to be a part of it. This is my dream and I’m enjoying it. We have done great so far.”
