Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp makes Europa League call as Jamie Carragher brutally mocked

Liverpool embark on their Europa League journey on Thursday evening against Austrian side LASK away from Anfield with Jurgen Klopp having already made a call over the competition

Liverpool are set to get their first Europa League campaign in eight seasons underway on Thursday as they clash with LASK.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds travel to Austria for their first group game of their latest European campaign. They will be confident of claiming victory having enjoyed an unbeaten start to the Premier League season so far.

Their most recent outing saw Liverpool come from behind to earn victory against Wolves. The trip to Austria then gives Klopp’s side a great opportunity to make it five consecutive wins. Take a look at all of the headlines coming out of Anfield over the past 24 hours:

Jurgen Klopp makes Europa League call

Klopp has suggested that he wants Liverpool to qualify for the next stage of the Europa League sooner rather than later in order to give some of the Reds’ young players opportunities in the first-team. The Reds have a clutch of promising youngsters on the verge of breaking through into the side.

Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic and Jarrel Quansah have already made appearances this season, with Bobby Clark also keen to make an impression. Speaking about his academy graduates, Klopp said: “I have and obviously Vitor Matos and Pep Lijnders are the biggest advocates of all these boys.

“So they know absolutely everything about them and I see them from time to time and I can say it’s good. But we have a situation where we don’t need to put them in when it’s too early for them. So are they in the first team? Probably not. Are they on loan? No, because we want them around to learn.”

Jamie Carragher mocked by Micah Richards

On the topic of the Europa League, Micah Richards has taken aim at Jamie Carragher for the Reds playing in the competition. Speaking to his CBS colleague at the end of Manchester City’s win over Crvena Zvezda, he said: “Can I just reference? We’ve been on air for five hours, and we’ve not actually referenced you should be doing Thursday nights.”

Carragher though decided to very quickly clap back. He replied: “Well it’d just be nice if you did Wednesday nights. I’ll do Thursday if you do Wednesday!”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bemoans ex-Red

Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that Roberto Firmino caused him the “most problems” during his time at Old Trafford.

Speaking with The Athletic, he said: “We lost 5-0 [to Liverpool]. It was 50/50, more or less, in possession and chances at half-time, yet we were 4-0 down. I made the wrong decision and that was my lowest point as United manager by a mile.

“Roberto Firmino was probably the opposition player who caused me the most problems as a manager.”
