The most terrifying discovery

When you dig into the ground, you never know what mysteries you might uncover.

And for some unlucky archeologists, the discoveries made can be HORRIFIC. We explore some of the most disturbing finds.

Pit full of severed hands: Whilst excavating a 3,600 year-old pit in the once great city of Avaris, Egypt, a team of archeologists in 2012 unearthed four pits. They were horrified to discover a collection of 16 dismembered human hands.

Two of the pits, located in front of what is believed to be a throne room, hold one hand each. Two other pits, constructed at a slightly later time in an outer space of the palace, contain the 14 remaining hands. The explanation is quite simple. A common practice in ancient Egypt was for soldiers to cut off their enemy’s hand and present it their leader.
