A Gant and Jil Sander mash-up for the ages
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are Q4’s couple of the moment. And their relationship status has, maybe, buzzed more than the launch of the singer’s Eras Tour in cinemas (to put that into perspective, it broke records and according to Forbes, scooped a tidy $96 million at the box office this weekend). But after weeks of rumours, it was a hard launch this weekend – and there was some very sick outerwear to go with it.
Following cameos on Saturday Night Live (Swift was on hand to introduce Ice Spice to the stage, while the Chiefs’ tight end actually starred in a skit about his purported relationship), both arrived to the afterparty in a huge menswear set pieces.
Swift, who has been on somewhat of a winning streak with her fits as of late, decided to continue on her run of menswear-y style. She wore a Versace corset, and a pair of black front-pleated slacks, but over that there was Gant checked overcoat – and it’s actually a men’s product designed by the label’s newly installed creative director Christopher Bastin. It had super-wide lapels that fanged out hard. We have it on good word that she actually headed to the Gant store at 240 Mulberry Street in NYC to grab it herself. Which makes sense, given it was Swift’s third outing in the brand in two weeks.
Then, Kelce rocked his own bit of excellent outerwear: a Jil Sander jacket, embroidered by hand with bird emblems which he wore open over a white silk shirt and a pair of brown trousers. The outfits felt cohesive, but not in a matchy-matchy Hollywood couple sorta way. They’d clearly had a chat about what they were going to wear, and it was in keeping with the same laid-back, yet sneakily linked-up sensibility that has made A$AP Rocky and Rihanna excellent co-dressers.
The future looks bright for the Swift-Kelce (Swelce? Kwift? Traylor?) romance. But it also looks very, very good.
