Ticket sales for the New York Jets game against the Kansas City Chiefs in New Jersey saw a huge surge in ticket sales after it was revealed Swift would be in the stands, with her legion of fans buying up football shirts and helping each other learn the rules.
Taylor Swift arrives at NFL game
Taylor Swift has returned to the NFL stands in support of her rumoured love interest- bringing a star-studded entourage with her.
Swift is rumoured to be dating Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce, with the pair being spotted together after last weekend’s round of NFL matches.
Her much-hyped presence in the stands this weekend sent ticket sales soaring for the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20 win against New York Jets, with purchases in a single day more than doubling the previous record for this season so far, StubHub said.
Last weekend, she made a surprise appearance in Kansas, to join Kelce’s mother at the game, with cameras pointing at her for almost the entire match.
Clips of her drinking, celebrating, and shouting immediately went viral, as did images of her driving away with Kelce at the end of the night.
Swift’s fanbase, known as Swifties, mobilised in the hours and days after her appearance, buying-up Kelce’s replica shirt and circulating videos helping each other learn the rules of American Football.
Joining Swift in New Jersey as she watched her new flame on Sunday night was Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively, as well as new divorcees Hugh Jackman and Sophie Turner.
It’s widely reported Turner, who has split from pop-star Joe Jonas, is currently staying in Swift’s New York flat while she stays in the city to finalise her divorce. The pair have both dated, and split, from Jonas.
Swift is good friends with model Lively, while Reynolds and Jackman have paused filming the next Deadpool film due to the ongoing Hollywood actors strike.
Jackman and his ex-wife also split last month, after more than two decades of marriage.
Also spotted with Swift at the Metlife Stadium, which she played for three nights in a row in May, was fellow musician Sabrina Carpenter, who has been opening for the mega-star on the South America leg of her tour.
In the game’s build-up on NBC (owned by Sky’s parent company, Comcast), host of the US version of The Voice Carson Daly made an appearance to explain the rules of the game to the Swifties who had likely tuned in.
“We all know this is not just any Sunday Night Football game,” Daly said, adding: “We got a call from our friends at NBC Sports asking us to put tonight’s story in language that the legions of Swifties would understand.”
He went on to talk about the game, while peppering in Swift’s song titles, ending with: “Welcome To New York”.
Swift nor Kelce have publicly revealed if they’re in a relationship – but the latter did remark on a podcast with his brother that she looked “amazing” at the game last week, adding: “Shout out to Taylor for coming through and seeing me rock the stage.”
