Tuned 2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder Could Make Charles Leclerc Switch Sides

This right here is one of the most exciting, driver-focused supercars ever made, the Lamborghini LP 640-4 Performante, unveiled by the Raging Bull brand at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Its sole purpose is to dominate the race track, albeit more during track days and not necessarily an FIA-sanctioned race.

Visually, a keen-eyed observer should spot the differences between a Performante and a regular Huracan straight away. The Performante has different front and rear bumpers, loads of carbon fiber (including on that massive rear wing), plus the exhaust is positioned above the rear diffuser.

The Spyder variant came out a year after the Coupe, at the same Geneva Motor Show, and while it is identical to its fixed-roof sibling from a technology standpoint, its 0-60 mph time took a 0.1 second hit, which let’s face it, should be imperceptible.

Hitting 60 mph in 3.1 seconds is still incredible. However, the Performante Spyder will require an extra 0.4 seconds to hit 124 mph from a standstill, which is maybe somewhat perceptible.

Anyway, there is an easy workaround for all these performance-related “issues”, and we’ve just found the perfect car to demonstrate all that. This is a 2018 Huracan Performante Spyder, and it’s getting auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The exterior is finished in Rosso Bia, featuring Italian tricolore side stripes, forged-composite front and rear spoilers and a black soft top. The car is also fitted with the Style Package, which adds high-gloss black mirror housings and side skirts, on which you’ll find the name ‘Heffner Performance’. More on that in a second.

Other visual goodies include the black 20” Loge forged wheels with red center-lock nuts, the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires (245/30 front, 305/30 rear), and the black Lambo-branded calipers hugging those carbon-ceramic rotors.2018 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder getting auctioned offPhoto: Bring a Trailer

Moving on to the interior, there’s Nero Cosmus Alcantara with red contrast stitching everywhere (seats, dashboard, center console, door panels), while the seats also come with Performante-branded bolsters. Other highlights include the forged composite trim, Lamborghini Sensonum sound system, sat-nav, a rear-view camera, cruise control, climate control, and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with column-mounted paddle shifters.

Now, the engine. Remember the name Heffner Performance? It’s relevant because the tuner went to town on the car’s 5.2-liter V10 engine, which is normally good for 631 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.

Modifications to the power unit include 69 mm twin-turbochargers, stainless-steel exhaust housings, custom downpipes and midpipes, 50 mm blow-off valves, custom water-to-air intercooler system, twin high-flow air filters, plus a few other welcomed changes. The car now runs on E85 flex-fuel and according to the seller, it produces, and this is a quote, “well over 1,000 WHP.”

You can take that to mean a lot of things. But conservatively speaking, 1,000 horsepower at the wheels, on an all-wheel drive car, should translate to about 1,200 horsepower at the crank. If so, this Huracan should easily hit 60 mph in the 2.5-second range, maybe even 2.0 seconds flat. That’s nearly Tesla Plaid turf.

Let’s hope Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc doesn’t see this ad, or he might find himself toying with a dilemma. All joking aside, we’d actually love to see Lamborghini join Formula 1 at one point in the future.
