And for Joe Rogan, the support and friendship of Johnson might mean a lot, seeing the considerable number of attention their interactions receive. However, there was also a time when Dwayne had to re-think his decision to back Rogan after the popular podcaster was called out for repeatedly using racial slurs in some of his old videos.
When Dwayne Johnson Backtracked On His Support For Joe Rogan
Joe Rogan is as controversial as he is famous. Over the years he has been embroiled in several controversies from his alleged transphobic comments to his most recent remarks regarding the hit Taylor Swift, it would be suffice to say that there were many times that the podcaster was close to being canceled (via Inquisitr and Newsweek).
But back in 2022, times were pretty anti-Rogan, with numerous fans and people calling him out for his allegedly misinformed COVID-19 comments on his podcast. When Rogan defended his comments, Dwayne Johnson even supported him.
However, singer and songwriter India Arie pulled out all of her music from Spotify after revealing a compilation video of Rogan uttering the N-word multiple times.
This gave people, including author Don Winslow, enough impetus to call out the Rock for his unconditional support (via Entertainment Weekly). Soon enough, Johnson seemingly backtracked on his support and tweeted,
“I hear you as well as everyone here 100%. I was not aware of his N word use prior to my comments, but now I’ve become educated to his complete narrative. Learning moment for me.”
However, things seem to have calmed down since Dwayne Johnson recently appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast, about a year after the incident.
Dwayne Johnson And Joe Rogan Are Friends Again
While Dwayne Johnson withdrew support for Joe Rogan, Rogan in a video accused the actor of using steroids and asked him to come clean (via New York Post). However, everything seems to be okay ever since Rogan apologized for his usage of racial slurs (via Entertainment Weekly).
The two even revealed how they had worked out together during Rock’s latest appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast, despite Rogan’s earlier accusation of the Black Adam star using steroids to get ‘big’. Over the course of the three hours, Rock got candid about a lot of things, from his father to his wrestling career.
Seems like cancel culture doesn’t always work in Hollywood, for even the fans and netizens appeared to have moved on from the controversy.
