Michelle Rodriguez talks to PEOPLE about the Fast 8 feud involving costars The Rock and Vin Diesel
Last month, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson raised eyebrows when he posted a lengthy rant on Instagram in which he publicly called out “some” of his male costars for being “chicken s—-” and “candy a—-.”
Later, a source told PEOPLE that tension had been building for months between Johnson and Vin Diesel on set.
While fellow cast members Scott Eastwood and Jason Statham erred on the side of diplomacy when asked about the feud, the female face of the franchise – Michelle Rodriguez – is getting a bit more candid.
“Any human being who knows what men are like knows to stay out [of those] situations and let them figure it out,” she tells PEOPLE while attending the Call of Duty XP Fan Celebration at The Forum in Los Angeles.
“They’re ‘bros’, man,” she continues. “They’re friends, and ultimately even friends reach a point where they have to set aside their differences to make a movie for multi-cultural people around the world, and that is the bigger scheme of things.”
Diesel hinted at the end of the feud last month when he praised Johnson on Facebook Live, saying the fellow action star “shined” in his role.
However, days earlier Johnson failed to mention Diesel when he posted a lengthy message to Instagram confirming that filming had wrapped and name-checking other costars.
The franchise’s first seven films have taken in nearly $4 billion at the box office, and also serve as the late Paul Walker‘s legacy.
“That is bigger than all of us,” says the 38-year-old actress. “It is bigger than me, it’s bigger than Vin, it’s bigger than Dwayne, and all of us involved.”
“Ultimately, at the end of the day, that is what shuts all of us up,” she says, laughing. “When we remember what it is that we are here for, all the bad taste comes out of our mouth and we hug each other again. It’s just real, it always ends with that, no matter what happens.”
