These two projects encouraged filmmaking genius Steven Spielberg to cast him in his 1998 American epic war film Saving Private Ryan. Vin Diesel once revealed that Spielberg gave him one sage advice to direct more films.
“Speaking of Steven Spielberg, I saw him recently, and he had said to me, ‘When I wrote the role for you in Saving Private Ryan, I was obviously employing the actor, but I was also secretly championing the director in you, and you have not directed enough. That is a crime of cinema, and you must get back in the directing chair. I haven’t directed enough.’”

He continued,

“There’s the threat to the cinematic experience, and when you make movies like Bloodshot or Fast 9, you are protecting that thing that might not be here forever, and that’s that cinematic social experience. Although I have to do that, I have to continue the director’s journey at some point.”
After watching Diesel suggest improvising a sequence in Saving Private Ryan, Spielberg was so impressed with his skills that he advised him to go behind the camera to create more magic and stories.

The actor once revealed that during the filming of this masterpiece, he had given a few suggestions to improve some sequences in the flick. He claimed that Spielberg took his advice seriously. Diesel told Men’s Health,

Hey, Steven, where’s your C camera?” the actor recalled. After hearing him, Spielberg said, “What why?” he told him, “Put a C camera in that second-floor window.”

Vin Diesel’s improvising during a shot in the film turned out excellently, which ended up being used in the movie’s trailer. Saving Private Ryan was a hit film that received critical acclaim and won many awards.
