KATY PERRY has finally come clean about the origins of her most notorious hit, I Kissed A Girl, revealing that she did a lot more than just kiss a female partner.

It was the song – with the helpful extra controversy – which made her famous.

Back in 2008 Perry became a global star with a song about kissing another girl and liking it. I Kissed A Girl has become an anthem for tolerance and sexuality but there have also been accusations that the singer only paid lip-service to the lesbian lip-locking in order to further her career.

She has finally spoken out to confirm she not only kissed a girl, she did more…

When the song was released, the singer was inevitably asked if it was based on real events.

At the time she said: “Of course. I think I was 19. I kissed a girl and it was great.”

However, in 2008 she also denied that it had gone any further. Since then, she has only ever had high-profile relationships with men, including John Mayer and her former husband Russell Brand. Her most recent, with Hollywood heartthrob Orlando Bloom, just ended.

At the Human Rights Campaign Gala in LA she opened up about what really happened when she kissed a girl.

She said: “I speak my truths and I paint my fantasies into these little bite size pop songs. For instance, ‘I kissed a girl and I liked it.’

“Truth be told, I did more than that.

“But how was I going to reconcile that with a gospel singing girl raised in youth groups that were pro-conversion camps?”

Perry’s strict upbringing by born-again Christian Pentecostal pastors Mary Christine and Maurice Keith Hudson is well documented, as is their disapproval of her rock star life, music and outrageous performances.

At the event last night she was being honoured with the National Equality Award, recognising her advocacy for LGBT rights.

During her acceptance speech, the star explained that her childhood still cast a shadow but that she was proud of what the song had achieved.

She added: “What I did know was I was curious and even then I knew sexuality wasn’t as black and white as this dress.

And honestly, I haven’t always gotten it right, but in 2008 when that song came out I knew that I started a conversation and a lot of the world seemed curious enough to sing along, too.”
