Katy Perry has given fans a fascinating insight into how she makes five costume changes in a one show in less than two hours.
Helped by four stage hands in just 30 seconds, the musician compared the military-style operation to a motor car refueling.
Katy’s rapid costume change was filmed by her close friend Derek Blasberg in the minutes before she was elevated to the stage to perform one of her songs.
Katy panted to the camera: ‘This is what popstars do when you think it’s all just “smoke and dope” and hanging out backstage waiting to come on… She works really hard for her money.’
The international popstar is filmed being zipped into a skintight leather bodysuit with a flamenco-style skirt.
‘This is a NASCAR pit-stop, for changing costumes,’ she said, as she slipped into one of five eccentric outfits for the Paris performance at the AccorHotels Arena on Tuesday.
Among the other outfits, is a metallic gold tabard dress, an electric blue PVC catsuit and a digitalised crop top that flashes the lyrics of her famous hits.
It’s all hands on deck in the behind the scenes clip which sees Katy holding onto a metal bar above her head while stagehands water and preen her and also zip her into the figure-hugging garment.
Poking fun at his friend, Derek captioned one still shot: ‘FYI she basically hands on this while they change her like a dangling baby.’
Ever the professional, Katy is then followed all the way to the stage before she’s elevated by a platform and begins her next song.
Katy’s Witness tour began in Germany in May and will continue on to Zurich, Bologna, Vienna, Berlin and Copenhagen over the coming days.
The production on her latest show is huge. She relies upon a custom-built stage, automated rigging, and a performer flying system to be dropped onto the stage from a giant pair of lips as well as shoot hoops on a larger-than-life basketball backboard.
In 2017, it was reported that the popstar brings 100 cast and crew as well as 24 trucks to every show.
