It’s been more than five years since Cardi B’s debut studio album, 2018’s Invasion of Privacy, but fans can finally expect a new album soon.

The 30-year-old rapper (born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar) won the Grammy for Best Rap Album, the first solo female artist to win the award, and she’s been keeping busy since then with hit collaborations like WAP.

Still, fans have been waiting for a new album over the past five wish, though she revealed to Vogue Mexico the wait will be shorter than you think… adding she will not release any more collaborations with other artists.

‘I’m not going to release any more collaborations, I’m going to release my next solo single,’ she revealed.

Right now I’m working on the cover art and ideas for the next record because it’s definitely coming up,’ she continued, though she didn’t reveal a release date.

‘Everyone always tells me I should put the record out now, they did when I released Wap [with Megan Thee Stallion] and when I released Up , but I always let them know I’m not going to wait long after all these singles,’ she clarified.

‘So stay tuned because it’s coming out very soon,’ she added, while also teasing ventures in other industries as well.

‘I also have plans in the world of cinema. In fact I have plans to do as much as I can: fashion, branding , I want to do it all, honey,’ she said.

One of her last collaborations was with her husband Offset, a track entitled Jealousy, which she recently opened up about.

‘My husband and I wanted to do a song like this after the haters wouldn’t stop talking about us,’ she says of the song.

‘There are many people who always tell us things, that they are attacking us all the time and we wanted to take all that weight off our shoulders,’ she added.

‘We were very tired of responding to people on the internet and we decided we better put it to music,’ she clarified.

She also spoke about her love for Mexican music, and how it still influences her own work.

‘Mexican music has been an important part of my life. I love Ana Gabriel, Luis Miguel, Rocío Durcal, who is not Mexican, but she is practically an icon of Mexican music,’ she explained.

‘They are artists that I love and I love them. There are many Mexican soap operas that I watched when I was young and from which I learned lessons of love,’ she said.

‘Mexican music and television have really influenced me and many people throughout my life. I like Featherweight, but if I do a song like that it would be one by Ana Gabriel, of course. What’s more, when this cover comes out I’m going to make a live video and I’m going to sing a song by Ana Gabriel. I promise,’ she said.

It’s currently unclear when more details about Cardi B’s sophomore studio album will be released.
