Ahead of one of the biggest nights in Hip-Hop, the nominations for the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards have been announced.
Leading the pack this year are Cardi B and 21 Savage who have both earned 12 nominations each! Some of the categories include Lyricist of the Year, Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration (twice for Cardi B), Hustler of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video (twice for 21 Savage), Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse and Song of the Year.
Although Cardi B has not put out a new album yet, she has been killing the game with her features alone. Her remix for Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor Again,” is still making its rounds online and even has become a trending sound on TikTok. Aside from that she has dropped a new track titled “Jealousy” with her hubby Offset and is gearing up to release a new single with Megan Thee Stallion… talk about a good year!
Meanwhile, 21 Savage has also been killing the Hip-Hop games. With hit records and collaborations with Usher, Summer Walker, and Drake, it’s clear why he’s one of the top contenders in this year’s award show.
Following behind the two rappers, Drake comes in with nine nods. Burna Boy and DJ Khaled also snagged seven nods each, with J. Cole bringing in six. More great stars have also snagged a no tomato on for their great work. Fellow rappers Coi Leray, GloRilla, as well as the legendary Jay-Z have all earned five nominations each. Lil Uzi Vert has also scored four.
“This year’s BET Hip Hop Awards will mark the culmination of our yearlong celebration of hip-hop’s storied creation and the art form’s sonic and cultural expansion,” Connie Orlando, BET’s EVP specials, music programming & music strategy, said in a statement. “We are honored by this year’s roster of nominees as they continue to carry the creativity and diversity of hip hop into the future. We congratulate each nominee on their accomplishments as they take hip hop artistry to new heights.”
