Avril Lavigne ‘ignites the fire’ in Bangkok on Valentine’s Day
The Canadian female singer brought the audience in the land of the Golden Temple into a space filled with vitality, somewhat dispelling the seemingly tense atmosphere after the protests here.
Avril Lavigne is the first international artist to have a tour around Asia in the year of the Horse. The Canadian singer’s concert took place on the evening of February 11 – close to Valentine’s Day – at Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand. This is the second time Avril has come to the capital of the Golden Temple to perform. In 2005, she also had a very successful concert here to promote her second album titled Under My Skin .

Avril’s music night took place in Bangkok during a tense political period here with many protests causing the number of foreign tourists to partly decrease. However, the charm of the I’m with You singer made the Impact Arena convention center hotter than ever right from 3 pm – up to 5 hours before the performance. Tens of thousands of fans from both Thailand and many countries in the region (including Vietnam) dressed in black lined up to wait until opening time.
The political situation does not much affect cultural activities taking place in Bangkok, but security control is tighter. Audiences who came to watch Avril perform had to go through scanners. Security forces also checked each person’s bag, including every small item, so it was difficult for any camera to get inside. The concert was part of Avril’s fifth world tour and the organizers requested that all of the audience’s cameras be sent outside so that the Canadian singer’s crew could record exclusively for the following DVD. This.
Avril Lavigne’s concert started at 8:30 pm with the cheers of more than 10,000 spectators filling the rows of seats in the stands as well as the standing area. In a cute outfit with a Kitty cat image and a very elegant bow mane, the 29-year-old female singer stepped onto the stage and performed the first song of the night – Hello Kitty ( see video ). This is a song in the new album under her own name, released last November.
Even though she is almost 30 years old, Avril Lavigne still looks like a high school student. Her petite body makes the Canadian singer look young for a long time and compared to 12 years ago when she first appeared, she has not changed much. Still with her mischievous style, personality and strong Punk Rock music, Avril made the crowd burst into tears with her hit songs in all 5 released albums.

With nearly two hours, fans can enjoy Girlfriend , My Happy Ending ( see video ), Don’t Tell Me, Losing Grip and many recent songs such as Rock & Roll, Here’s to Never Growing Up , Let Me Go … The first hits always bring the most emotion and excitement to the audience. When Avril sang Complicated ( see video ), on the big screen appeared images of her from when she first entered the music industry until becoming one of the most influential vocalists for young people.
One of the most impressive moments was when Avril sang Sk8er Boi – the second single from her debut album Let Go and also one of her most famous songs. The audience simultaneously held up pieces of paper printed with the image of the star – the symbol appearing in this song and together with Avril revived the atmosphere of 12 years ago when Sk8er Boi conquered major music charts in the world.
During the show, Avril changed her performance outfit many times, sometimes elegantly wearing a lace dress with a Kitty cat image and a bow; Sometimes it’s healthy with a simple T-shirt; In the middle of the program, he wears a pair of “devil” horns in the style of “first devil, second ghost, third student”. Even though she is about to turn 30 years old and has gone through two marriages with many ups and downs in life, Avril Lavigne still clearly shows her love of life, optimism and youthfulness. Avril constantly squinted her eyes, smiled, and made serious gestures to tease the audience and entice listeners to follow the emotions from vibrant Rock songs to deep, sweet Ballads.
To Avril, age seems to be just a number, she is forever a “school princess” that all teenage boys secretly love but girls cannot be jealous of. Avril’s style is that of an individual student, mischievous, careless and rebellious, but the “quality” of her music always strikes the right chord with the psychology of youth. These can be ambitions, hopes, and pains that every time they listen, teenage boys or girls find themselves in them.
I’m with You is the last song on Avril’s tour this time ( see excerpt ). This is her most beloved hit and was nominated for a Grammy for “Song of the Year” in 2004. At this time, the audience below simultaneously held up pieces of paper with the sentence: “We’re with You”. At that moment, Avril was very touched and raised her voice to sing with more than 10,000 audiences in a meaningful melody: “I don’t know who you are but I, I’m with you” (I don’t know who you are but I, I’m with you). anyone but I’m here with you).
Avril can’t know all her fans, but everyone who loves her knows that they will forever keep the image of the rebellious teenage girl who never grew up with a unique, distinct musical style.

Hong Ngan, a Vietnamese audience member born in 1987 present at the show, confided: “Avril Lavigne’s music has stuck with me since I was a middle school student. She has a charm that everyone Everyone who goes through their teenage years is conquered. Many generations have grown up but it seems that Avril is still a ‘school princess’. I’ve been waiting for the day to see Avril perform live for a long time and the feeling today is hard to describe, simply ‘here’s to never growing up’ (a hit song in the new album and also good). wallet is a ‘manifesto’ of Avril).
A music producer in Vietnam revealed that during this tour, Avril Lavigne and her crew also intended to visit the S-shaped country to perform for fans here, but domestic organizers I think this is still too risky. The reason is that many concerts of foreign artists in Vietnam so far have been at a loss, even names with large fan bases here like Backstreet Boys or Westlife. That’s why in the past two years, many Vietnamese fans who love international music still go to neighboring countries such as Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia to watch shows.
After Japan and Thailand, Avril Lavigne’s next destinations on her tour around Asia are Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Korea, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and ending in Taiwan on the evening of March 16. .
