Avril Lavigne, born Avril Ramona Lavigne on September 27, 1984, in Belleville, Ontario, is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Avril began singing at age 2. With the support of her parents, she learned how to play multiple instruments at a young age. At age 14, she began performing at county fairs, covering songs by country artists like Garth Brooks and Shania Twain. In 1999, she won a radio contest to perform with Shania at the Corel Centre in Ottawa. Later that year, she was discovered by her first manager, Cliff Fabri.
In 2002, when she was 17 years old, Avril released her highly successful debut album ‘Let Go’. Her second album, ‘Under My Skin’, was released in 2004. Avril’s third album would come in 2007, and the lead single, ‘Girlfriend’ would debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
In addition to music, Avril has ventured into the acting world, providing the voice of Heather in the 2006 animated film, ‘Over The Hedge’ and appearing in her first on-screen role in ‘Fast Food Nation’. Avril also has a clothing line, Abbey Dawn, and has a line of perfumes including Black Star, Forbidden Rose, and Wild Rose.
