2024 is shaping up to be a great year for music in Cardiff, with international stars like Taylor Swift, P!nk, and The Foo Fighters taking to the Principality Stadium and Cardiff Castle has also got some very impressive gigs lined up. From pop punk princess Avril Lavigne to indie rockers The National.

Cardiff Castle is a brilliant location for a gig as fans will dance the night away in front of the historical landmark and often enjoy a gorgeous sunset. You can keep up to date with the latest What’s On news by signing up to the newsletter here.

Many of the gigs are being run by Depot Live, who have put on brilliant concerts, including Bastille and The Lumineers, at Cardiff Castle before. Here are all the gigs coming to Cardiff Castle in 2024, so make sure you don’t miss out!

Australasian rock giants Crowded House are taking to the stage at Cardiff Castle. The five-piece rock band famed for such legendary hits Don’t Dream It’s Over and Weather With You will play Cardiff Castle on Thursday, June 20.

Tickets are already on sale and you can buy them from Ticketmaster and Depot Live website. The Cardiff Castle date, part of Depot Live, is one of only a handful of shows Crowded House is performing in the UK next summer including outdoor dates at The Piece Hall, Halifax, and Lincoln Castle.

Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer

1990s alt-rock legends Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer will perform at Cardiff Castle in summer 2024. The US bands will call at the Welsh venue as part of their major summer tour of the UK and Ireland which will also see them play the O2 in London.

Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer will visit Cardiff Castle on Friday, June 14. Tickets are already on sale and you can buy them from Ticketmaster and Depot Live website.

Fronted by the one-off Billy Corgan, Chicago band The Smashing Pumpkins first emerged in 1988 and have since sold over 30 million albums worldwide and collected two Grammy Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award.

Avril Lavigne

Pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne is coming to Cardiff Castle, bringing some of her biggest hits. The Sk8er Boi singer, who, aged just 17, became the youngest female solo artist to reach number one in the UK album charts, will headline in the capital, on Tuesday, July 2. At her Cardiff show, she will be supported by Montreal rock band Simple Plan.

General tickets went on sale on Friday, December 1 and you can buy them at the Depot Live website and Ticketmaster. Since launching her debut album Let Go in 2002 – featuring iconic hit Complicated – the Canadian singer-songwriter has sold 40 million albums worldwide and got eight Grammy Award nominations under her belt.

The National

US indie rockers The National are also playing at Cardiff Castle in 2024. The American quintet, who have enjoyed more than 20 years of success on both sides of the Atlantic, will head to the iconic venue on Wednesday, July 3.

Formed in New York in 1999, The National is made up of Matt Berninger (vocals), twin brothers Aaron Dessner (guitar, piano, keyboards) and Bryce Dessner (guitar, piano, keyboards), as well as brothers Scott Devendorf (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). Their last five albums have all been in the Top 5 in the UK charts, with 2017’s GRAMMY Award-winning (for Best Alternative Album) Sleep Well Beast hitting Number One.

Manic Street Preachers and Suede

Manic Street Preachers and Suede are playing not one but two gigs at Cardiff Castle in summer 2024. They will be performing at Cardiff Castle on Friday, July 5, and Saturday, July 6.

Nick Saunders from DEPOT Live said: “As we saw with Tom Jones over the summer, the Welsh love to back their own – and with Suede as laudable co-headliners alongside Manic Street Preachers, it’s really no surprise the demand has been so high. We would hate to disappoint fans so we’re thrilled to be able to add a second date to ensure we have two amazing nights here at Cardiff Castle.”

JLS

Popular boyband JLS is returning to Cardiff, having already performed in the Welsh capital in 2023, to take to the stage at Cardiff Castle. They will be performing on Sunday, July 7.

Having shot to success after appearing on The X Factor JLS have some big hits such as One Shot, Beat Again and She Makes Me Wanna. Tickets are already on sale and you can buy them from Ticketmaster and Depot Live website.

Idles

British rock star Idles will also be performing at Cardiff Castle in 2024. This is part of only four UK summer dates. Formed in Bristol in 2009, Idles is made up of Joe Talbot (vocals), Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass) and Jon Beavis (drums).

The Cardiff date is an extension to their current world tour. Idles will be performing at Cardiff Castle on Friday, July 12. Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday, December 8, which you can get on Ticketmaster here, and you can sign up to presale here.

Madness

Iconic band Madness is returning to Cardiff Castle, having performed at the historical venue previously, and are sure to put on a great show. They will be performing at Cardiff Castle on Thursday, July 18 and tickets are already on sale, you can buy them from Ticketmaster and the Depot Live website.

Anne-Marie

An annual favourite event at Cardiff Castle, Depot in the Castle is a day-long festival that often features a very impressive line-up. It has been announced that Anne-Marie will be headlining Depot in the Castle.

Anne-Marie, who is behind hits like 2002, Friends, and Psycho, will be performing to crowds at Cardiff Castle as the festival returns for its seventh year. Depot in the Castle will take place on Saturday, July 27. Tickets for Depot in the Castle are already on sale and you can buy them from Ticketmaster and Depot Live website.

Tom Grennan

The chart-topping BRIT and Ivor Novello-nominated Tom Grennan will play the iconic venue on Friday, July 26. Tickets are already on sale and you can buy them from Ticketmaster and Depot Live website.

Tom said: “Cardiff, I can’t wait! We had such an amazing time bringing the tour to the International Arena in March and now we’re going to have an unbelievable night in the shadow of Cardiff Castle. Let’s get together and have a party!”

Rick Astley

His most famous song has kept him on radios and music channels for almost the past 40 years, now 1980s pop idol Rick Astley is performing at Cardiff Castle in summer 2024. Rick Astley will headline the historic venue on Wednesday, July 10.

He will be joined by special guests Lightning Seeds. Pre-sale tickets can be accessed from 10am Thursday, December 7 by signing up here or by visiting Ticketmaster. Tickets will then go on general sale at 9am on Friday December 8 from depotlive.co.uk and Ticketmaster.

Noel Gallagher

Oasis founder Noel Gallagher is returning to Cardiff Castle in 2024 for a summer gig. Noel and his band, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, will return to Cardiff Castle on Wednesday, July 17. Noel played an unforgettable sold-out show at Cardiff Castle in 2019.

His set will consist of a wide selection of Oasis classics as well as featuring a cross-section of material from the past dozen years of his highly successful career as a solo artist. Tickets for the gig go on sale on Friday, December 8 at 9am from the Depot Live website.
