Kristen Stewart Reveals How She Fell In Love With Robert Pattinson At First ‘Twilight’ Audition

If you’re a fan of the Twilight saga, then you probably know that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s on-screen chemistry as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen was simply undeniable. But what you might not know is that their real-life love story began to bloom right from their very first Twilight audition.

From the very beginning, Twilight’s director Catherine Hardwicke understood that casting was the toughest part so far. While teenager Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) was chosen as soon as fans expected, matching the actor to play vampire Edward Cullen was really a difficult decision.
In an interview with The New Yorker magazine, Stewart revealed that Hardwicke had the pair read lines and make out with each other at his Los Angeles home so she could test the partner, Robert Pattinson.

Indeed, Kristen wanted somebody that didn’t seem like a real person. “Who is that going to be? This vampire has lived for 90-something years. He’s ethereal, he’s special, he’s unique, he’s internal, he’s brooding, he’s everything, you know, iconic,” she explained. But things didn’t happen as she expected. Catherine detailed the first auction Robert and Kristen had together, in the bedroom of her house.
“They did the kissing scene and he fell off and landed right there on this floor,” she remembered. “Rob was so into it, he fell off the bed. I’m like, ‘Dude, calm down.’ And I’m in there filming with my little video camera, you know, whatever.”

During his audition, he brought Edward to life with a captivating mix of brooding intensity and undeniable charm. His portrayal was so compelling that it caught Kristen’s attention, and it was the beginning of something special.
At the end of the audition, Catherine recalled Kristen pushing for Rob to take part in the movie project. “I could tell they had a lot of chemistry,” she told. “And I thought, ‘Oh my god, Kristen was 17, I don’t want to get in some illegal thing.’ So I remember I told Rob, ‘By the way, Kristen is 17. In our country, it’s illegal for them to have sexual relations.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, OK, whatever.'” At the time, Robert was 21
