Kristen Stewart’s Best Movie In The Past 9 Years Is Still A Christmas Movie From 2020

Kristen Stewart’s recent filmography has had its ups and downs, but this 2020 Christmas movie is still one of the Twilight star’s career highlights.

Kristen Stewart’s output since 2014 has endured mixed results, meaning a 2020 Christmas movie remains one of her best over the past decade. Since starring in the Twilight films, Kristen Stewart’s career has gradually veered away from big-budget Hollywood blockbusters. The star’s filmography after Breaking Dawn – Part 2 primarily consists of lower-budget fare, and Stewart does not even appear in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, despite having starred in the previous installment. While this apparent preference for modest budgets gives the star more mobility, it hasn’t resulted in consistently high quality movies.

Over the course of her career, and particularly in the past decade, Kristen Stewart’s films have struggled to engage critics and audiences. Nevertheless, there remain some iconic Kristen Stewart movie roles scattered across the star’s packed filmography. One such work, a Christmas rom-com from 2020, stands out as an enduring treasure amid the star’s supposed weaker period. This one movie alone proves that Stewart’s blockbuster absence does not mean her movies are to be overlooked.

Happiest Season Is Kristen Stewart’s Best Movie Since 2014

One look at the actress’ Rotten Tomatoes page reveals 2020’s Happiest Season is the only Kristen Stewart movie since 2014 for which both the audience and critic scores are positive. Despite having somewhat stepped away from blockbuster filmmaking, Kristen Stewart is an extremely prolific actress. Since 2014, Stewart has appeared in no less than 15 feature films, but the reception many of these films received proved to be mixed at best.

In 2014, Stewart starred in three movies: Camp X-Ray, Clouds of Sils Maria, and Still Alice. All three earned some level of acclaim, albeit not necessarily widespread audience appeal. Following these releases, Stewart entered a career dip with movies such as American Ultra, Charlie’s Angels, and Underwater. This lack of overwhelmingly positive reviews shouldn’t be taken to mean that Stewart has appeared in no good movies since 2014. Many of her more recent films have been critically acclaimed, with 2020’s Spencer even earning Stewart an Oscar nomination. It’s still noteworthy, however, that Happiest Season is the only Stewart movie to resonate with both critics and audiences alike for almost a decade.

The movie offers an all-too-rare example of a mainstream queer narrative that is not mired in tragedy. Kristen Stewart’s Happiest Season is allowed to simply be itself – a funny, heartwarming Christmas rom-com that benefits from a sharp script, a stacked cast, and a positive message. Happiest Season also plays to Kristen Stewart’s strengths, bringing out her natural wit, while also playing off of her endearing awkwardness.
