Kristen Stewart’s Best Pattinson Batman Villain Casting Is Ivy, Not Joker
Kristen Stewart isn’t planning to play The Joker opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman, however, the villain she’d be perfect for is Poison Ivy.
Kristen Stewart’s fans want her to play The Joker opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman in future DCEU movies – however, she would actually be perfect as another villain, Poison Ivy. The Batman is set is delve into Bruce Wayne’s sophomore year as The Dark Knight. Directed by Matt Reeves, Batman will go up against Paul Dano’s Riddler, as well as Colin Farrell’s Penguin, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were co-leads in Twilight, spawning 4 sequels and thrusting the pair into super-stardom. Whilst it was a phenomenon with the fanbase, the Twilight movies were critically panned, and both Pattinson and Stewart have sought to distance themselves from it since its conclusion. Kristen Stewart’s Princess Diana movie Spencer is currently enjoying rave reviews and she’s being seen as a key contender for an Oscar nomination for best actress. Robert Pattinson meanwhile has established himself as his generation’s Leonardo DiCaprio, shunning the heartthrob image in favor of exploring damaged characters in independent films (before returning to blockbuster territory with Tenet, and The Batman). Many of their fans, however, have been eager to see them reunited on screen. To this end, an online campaign has been started to see Kristen Stewart play The Joker.
Kristen Stewart has responded to the idea of playing the Joker, and while she loved the energy behind the campaign, she didn’t seem that enthused at the idea either. Though Stewart playing The Joker would be intriguing (and the super-villain has been a woman in the comics), the villain role she’d actually be perfect for is Poison Ivy. Kristen Stewart has transformed her career and matured as an actress since her time playing Bella Swan. She would be able to channel Poison Ivy’s unhinged emotional state and aloof attitude with ease. Conversely, the role of the Joker normally demands more of a zany performance that isn’t necessarily in Stewart’s comfort zone. Having said that, Heath Ledger seemed miscast as the Joker when he was first announced for The Dark Knight, and his performance has gone down as one of the best of all time.
Uma Thurman previously played Poison Ivy in the disastrous Batman and Robin, and the character has made both live-action and animated television appearances – but has yet to appear in the DCEU. Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan wanted to use Poison Ivy in a Birds of Prey sequel. The character could also appear in a future Gotham City Sirens movie if it ever comes out of development hell. Both those potential films are separate from the Earth-2 universe Robert Pattinson’s Batman inhabits. However, with The Flash movie set to open up the DCEU Multiverse, there would be plenty of avenues for Kristen Stewart to inhabit both universes if she wished to play the character.
Kristen Stewart has mostly shied away from franchise and blockbuster films after The Twilight Saga, instead preferring to star mainly in director-driven independent films. Notwithstanding this, in dismissing the Joker campaign, she did state that she’d be “totally down to play a freaky, scary person.” While Poison Ivy has been both a Batman villain and anti-hero over the decades, her character can certainly encompass those traits.
