Singer Adele owns a fortune of 220 million USD but still cannot buy a house in her hometown of London: Why?
As one of the singers with a huge income, the “British nightingale” makes many people suspicious when saying that it is difficult to own real estate in England.
Adele is a special case in the world music industry. She signed a recording contract with XL Recordings in 2006. Surpassing all expectations, with only three albums, Adele became one of the best-selling artists in the world, with 120 million records. is sold.
All those record sales have made her one of Britain’s richest pop stars and worth $220 million, according to Fortune.
“The English Nightingale” owns million-dollar houses in America
Adele has an expensive staff including a stylist, personal trainer, assistant and a few bodyguards. The female singer also built an impressive portfolio of assets for herself.
The first of her many lavish properties was a 10-bedroom mansion in Sussex worth $3 million, named Lock House. This property was purchased by her in 2012 when her career began to take off after the success of her first album, 21. Lock House has five bedrooms, two offices and a helipad.

The female singer hasn’t stopped yet, buying a property in Beverly Hills for $10.65 million after breaking up with her ex-husband Simon Konecki.
And most recently, the female singer bought a third house, next to the other two houses. The 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom villa, with swimming pool and basketball court, costs 9.95 million USD. This villa with the other two properties has the potential to create a huge complex.
… But it’s impossible to buy a house in London
In 2021, global superstar Adele admitted that real estate prices in her home town of London made it difficult for her. Adele has revealed that she moved to Los Angeles because she “couldn’t afford” to buy property in London. Adele said: “The type of house I have in LA, I could never buy in London. The price of that house is hundreds of millions of pounds, I don’t have that much money.”
Giving her first interview in 5 years, the female singer frankly gave her opinion on real estate prices in her homeland. Talking about her decision to move, the female singer revealed that she wanted to improve her quality of life. “I spend most of my time in the car or inside a building. I want fresh air and somewhere I can see the sky,” Adele said.
Adele’s story partly reflects the reality of real estate prices in the UK. According to Rightmove, the UK’s largest property portal and property website, the average asking price of a house in the UK has increased for three consecutive months.
However, this makes social network users skeptical because the income of the “British nightingale” is not low.
“Adele can’t buy a house in London? So what should we do?”, one Twitter user expressed.
“She owns three houses in LA, worth a total of $30 million, but she can’t buy real estate in London?”, another person wondered.
