Celebrity underwear is quite expensive. Typically, Elvis Presley’s dirty underwear was sold for $8,000. This is truly one of those huge numbers with a strange… souvenir.

Even the toilet used by music legend John Lennon sold for 9,500 pounds, equivalent to 14,740 USD, at an auction in August 2010.

The underwear of emerging pop stars is also quite high. For example, Justin Bieber never washes and re-wears his underwear and instead puts them up for sale online. Their price is about 5000 dollars.

Celebrity underwear has long attracted the attention of the public and collectors as they are willing to spend a huge amount of money to own it. Garments once owned or worn by Ed Sheeran, Kelly Brook and Dame Helen Mirren are always a highlight at auctions. Buyers have also snapped up the tiny underwear of Queen Victoria and pop queen Madonna.

So, what is the appeal of underwear of celebrities and entertainment stars?

Professor Chris Rojek of the University of London, a sociologist and celebrity expert, shares that people always want to find ways to get closer to people they will never meet:  “The audience , or some crazy fans, want to have an intimate relationship with a celebrity. They will never meet them or see Idol’s underwear, but if they own them, the celebrity will become closer.”

Of course, Idols also do not hesitate to give underwear to fans for many purposes. Typically, Ed Sheeran donated underwear for charity purposes.

Fashion auction expert Kerry Taylor – who successfully sold Madonna’s underwear – shared:  “I don’t think Idol’s underwear is the main reason for collectors. What they want is a relic of a famous person . ” Some people buy celebrity underwear simply because it is a work of art.

A performance artist – who has collected hundreds of underwear of many famous people – also shared:  “I admire the original stage costumes because I like to see how they are made, with makeup stains on them.” score, also the names written inside and knowing that these performers sat and corrected their works just like I do mine today ,” she said.

Vintage photographer Neil Kendall has been collecting quirky items for 20 years. Kendall said many of the items were donated by performing artists. One of his most prized items is an original set of jeweled underwear once worn by legendary performer Tempest Storm, priced at $500. He shared:  “For me, collecting strange items from artists is extremely artistic. It ranges from the carriage to the underwear.”
