What is going on? First, Ariana Grande went blonde, likely to play Glinda in the upcoming Wicked movie. Then, she started ditching her signature ponytail for pigtails, bangs, and even ’40s-inspired rolls. Now, she’s letting her hair down entirely, which is basically the celebrity beauty equivalent of a five-alarm fire.

Grande appeared in a promo video for her beauty brand r.e.m. beauty with absolutely zero ponytail in sight. The musician’s creamy blonde hair is parted on one side and styled in soft curls over one shoulder and down her back. Her hair isn’t fully down, part of it is pulled back and pinned near one ear, but by Grande standards, this is the equivalent of a long and loose style.

Ariana Grande appears on The Voice wearing a pink dress and a ponytail.

Fans couldn’t believe their eyes, hopping into the comments to praise Grande’s style change-up. “THE BLONDE HAIR DOWN IS EVERYTHING,” wrote one. “No you absolutely devoured this look wtf? the plate is literally gone ??? not a single crumb??????” wrote another. “I’m sorry but let’s take a moment for the hair oh my god,” commented another.

In keeping with her current pastel aesthetic, Grande also skipped her beloved bold, winged liner in favor of shimmery, holographic pink and white shadow across her lids and lush lashes, blonde brows, and a glossy lip. Grande also applied a similar shimmery highlight to the tip of her nose to really glow on camera. She did, however, stick to her fave French manicure, which you can see as she goes through the new holiday products.

The musician has been vocal about her changing attitudes toward beauty, recently telling Vogue that her relationship with makeup and injectibles has evolved over the years. “I, over the years, used makeup as a disguise or as something to hide behind. More and more and more hair, more and more thicker — the eyeliner — and that can be so beautiful at times, and I still do have love for it,” she shared.

“But I think as I get older, I don’t love that being the intention behind it anymore. I think of it as self-expression now and accentuating what is here. Our relationships to beauty are so personal.” Whether this new hair-down style is a signal of a new era for Grande, a nod to Glinda, or just a way to freshen up her look, we’re so here for it.
