Ariana Grande And Camila Cabello seemed to be closer than ever but suddenly, Ariana hit the unfollow button on Instagram.

Are Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello actually friends? This seems to be a question that a lot of fans want to know. With artists like Taylor Swift, fans seem to have a good understanding of who her inner circle truly is.

But this isn’t the case with Ariana. Aside from Dalton Gomez after their secret wedding, we don’t really know who Ariana spends most of her time with. There’s a lot of speculation that she is close friends with Camila Cabello. And there seems to be a lot of evidence to support… at least, in 2018. Now some are criticizing Camila for pretending to be closer friends with Ariana than she actually is.

According to Bustle, Camila and Ariana’s friendship dates back to 2013 when the former broke onto the scene with “Havana”. Camila Tweeted out a photo of her, Fifth Harmony, and Ariana embracing.

This is when she first started calling Ariana her “wife”. This is something that continue between them until Ariana got engaged to Pete Davidson in 2018. While it appears as though Ariana and Camila were legitimately friends prior to the engagement, the pair have almost never been spotted together since. Yet, Camila continues to mention her affection for Ariana publicly. So, what’s really going on?

Ariana Grande And Camila Cabello Were Each Other’s “Wives”

There was definitely a friendship between Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello at one stage. Between 2013 and 2018, there was barely a month that went by where the two didn’t mention each other. While they would do Carpool Karaoke together, embrace at award shows, and hang out privately, fans really loved how the two young women would affectionately refer to one another as their “wife”. To fans, this signified just how close to two were.

Shortly after, pop culture junkies were utterly focused on Ariana and Pete’s engagement announcement. One that Camila’s Tweets seemingly confirmed. But while this interaction seemed to depict an intense closeness between the two singers, they’ve barely had much contact since.

Ariana Grande No Longer Follows Camila Cabello On Instagram

In May 2020, Ariana Grande went on an unfollow-spree on her Instagram. Among the many famous faces that the “Thank U, Next” singer axed was her former “wifey”, Camila Cabello. According to the Exhale.BreatheHeavy forum, fans believe Ariana unfollowed a lot of her famous friends who didn’t use their platform to speak up against former President Donald Trump nor took a stand during when Black Lives Matter tended.

Both Camila and her now ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes (who Ariana also unfollowed) didn’t say much about politics during the 2020 election cycle. The same can’t be said for Taylor Swift who Ariana didn’t unfollow.

A year prior to Ariana unfollowing Camila on Instagram, the “Havana” singer uncomfortably described Ariana as her “friend”. This was a big difference from how Camila publicly praised her relationship with Ariana prior to 2018. The topic of their connection came up in an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM and Camila was clearly not as emphatic she once was…

The Truth About Ariana Grande And Camila Cabello's Relationship

Aside from just not seeming super excited about her personal connection with Ariana, Camila also told Andy that most of their correspondence happens in the Instagram comment section. When she tried to backtrack and claim there was something deeper between them, Camila simply stated, “We’ll just kinda check-in on each other”.

In a 2021 interview with Telemundo, Camila again discussed her friendship with Ariana by saying, “[She’s] always supported me a lot. She’s a great person, obviously incredibly talented. So, I think it’s good to have friendships, especially women in the industry that support each other. I think it’s super important.”

However, given the fact that the two have not been spotted together nor has Ariana publicly referenced Camila since 2018, fans of the “Dangerous Woman” singer started saying that Camila was fabricating their friendship. One fan tweeted, “Camila needs to stop mentioning Ariana right now I’m so serious”.

Even though neither Ariana nor Camila has really explained why their friendship seemed to dwindle after 2018, some fans really believe that the two actually have nothing to do with one another anymore. Even though Camila says that they are still “friends”, the evidence seems to support the contrary.

Not only does Ariana no longer follow Camila nor mention her, but when Camila was a team advisor on The Voice, she was put with John Legend and not Ariana. If the two young women were as close as Camila claims, it’s likely that the producers would make sure to team her up with Ariana. Of course, these fans simply don’t know all the facts. Additionally, the two may have not had a big falling out. Sometimes people just grow apart.
