Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner claimed in court documents that she found out about estranged husband Joe Jonas filing for divorce earlier this month through the media.

Joe Jonas is being blasted for “never breaking up with someone in person” amid his shocking divorce proceedings from Sophie Turner.

The estranged couple’s separation after four years of marriage was revealed earlier this month, with Game of Thrones actress Sophie recently claiming she found out about the divorce filing through media reports. Her recent court documents, obtained by The Mirror, say: “On or about September 1, 2023, the Father filed a divorce case against the Mother in Florida. On or about September 5, 2023, the Mother found out through the media that the Father had filed for divorce.”

She claims that they had an argument on August 15, but she wasn’t made aware of his plans to divorce her. In the midst of all the drama, social media users have noticed a trend of Joe seemingly avoiding in-person communication when breaking off his relationships.

As well as Sophie finding out that Joe was planning to divorce her through the media, the singer’s ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift, who was recently seen out on a girls’ night with Sophie, previously revealed he called things off with her during a “25-second phone call”. One person called him out and tweeted: “Has joe jonas ever broken up with someone in person?”

A second wrote: “Joe Jonas broke up with Taylor Swift in an infamous 27 second phone call. Sophie Turner found out Joe Jonas was divorcing her by reading it about online. Maybe the problem is Joe Jonas.” A third added: “Convinced that joe jonas is allergic to breaking up with people in person,” while a fourth said: “Is joe jonas afraid of breaking up with people in person or something??”.

Meanwhile, Sophie is now suing Joe to have the two children they share together to return to the UK. She says that she and Joe moved to England before the divorce and that Joe wrongfully claimed that “the children have resided Florida for the six months prior to the filing of [the divorce papers]”. She says that despite the children joining Joe on tour with his band, The Jonas Brothers, they were living in England with a mutual agreement to make the country their permanent home.

During their post-filing meeting, Sophie reiterated that plan, requesting that the children be returned to England that week. However, in Joe’s case filing, he asked for the court to order “a parenting plan, and a timesharing schedule” for the children. Joe “has possession of the children’s passports” and “refuses to return” them to Sophie, according to the court documents. She requested they be returned home on Sept. 20, but they were not.

This conflict led Sophie to file her recent Petition for Return of Children to England in a New York court and initiate “a child arrangements case in the appropriate English Court”. According to Sophie, Joe’s lack of compliance is “a breach of the Mother’s rights of custody under English law”.

Her petition concludes by requesting the children be returned to England, Joe pay her legal fees, and the “Court grant any such further relief as justice and the Mother’s cause my require”. The children are reportedly with Sophie right now.

A representative of Joe denied the accusations to The Mirror. They said: “After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.”
