After a night out at the MTV VMAs, the singer and actress shared a candid post vowing: ‘I will never be a meme again’.

Selena Gomez has had enough of meme life. The actress and singer wrote a candid social media post addressing the relentless way her every move gets parsed on the Internet.

“I will never be a meme again,” Gomez wrote in an Instagram story. “I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love.”

Ahead of her post, the Only Murders in the Building star had been enjoying a night out at the MTV VMAs where she and Rema won an award for Best Afrobeats for “Calm Down.”

However, many of the stories from the evening about Gomez surrounded her reactions throughout the night, from her disappointed face when SZA wasn’t on hand to accept an award to concern at an apparent malfunction during Olivia Rodrigo’s performance.

Recently, she had fun with a viral meme of herself wrapped in a blanket. Gomez reposted some of her favorite takes to her account.

Selena Gomez Will 'Never Be a Meme Again' After MTV VMAs

Previously, she has been outspoken about her relationship with social media. She took a break from it earlier this year and once shared that she doesn’t keep the apps on her phone to keep her from going down internet rabbit holes.

“I don’t have it [social media] on my phone, so there’s no temptation. I suddenly had to learn how to be with myself,” she explained at the time. “That was annoying, because in the past, I could spend hours looking at other people’s lives. I would find myself down nearly two years in someone’s feed, and then I’d realize, ‘I don’t even know this person!'”
