The Colombian singer dedicated some pretty strong words to her ex-partner’s family in her latest hit song.

Shakira is on everyone’s radar again. The singer from Barranquilla recently swept the board with her stellar performance at the VMAs where she was also awarded the Music Video Award 2023 for her collaboration with Karol G for ‘TGQ’.

However, the Colombian singer seems far from having forgotten her relationship with ex-partner Gerard Piqué, to whom she has dedicated verses in her latest song ‘El Jefe’.

Shakira has decided to venture into a new style, the Mexican corrido, with her latest hit in which she participates with the group Fuerza Regida. In this song she once again carries several hidden messages and hints.

Shakira throws a jab at Piqué's father in her latest song 'El Jefe'.

The singer released this latest single on all platforms on Wednesday September 20 and in just a few minutes it caused a furor among fans. Her followers were quick to find references in the lyrics of the song.

In this hit, Shakira makes no bones about mentioning her ex-partner and more specifically his father, Joan Piqué.

“What irony, what madness, this is torture. You kill yourself from sunrise to sunset and you don’t have a single piece of writing. They say that no evil lasts more than a hundred years. But there’s still my ex-father-in-law who doesn’t set foot in the grave”, says Shakira’s verse.

This would not be the first time that Shakira has made reference to her ex in one of her songs.

In her big hit that she released with singer Bizarrap in session #53, another direct message can also be heard to Piqué’s mother, Monserrat Bernabéu, with whom many in the media have pointed out that she had a poor relationship with the Colombian singer.

“You left me as a neighbor to my mother-in-law, with the press at the door and the debt at the Treasury”, can be heard in this collaboration.

Who is Lili Melgar and why is Shakira dedicating the song to her?

The song by ‘El Jefe’ also includes a mysterious name with a hidden story that has not been previously revealed and that would have as its protagonist the nanny who looked after Piqué and Shakira’s children, Milan and Sasha, when they were still living together in Spain. In one of the last verses of the song, Shakira makes a special dedication to a woman.

“Lili Melgar, this song is for you, you didn’t get your severance pay.”

The name of this woman has been all over the internet, with users curious as to who this woman might be. According to the Colombian’s followers, Lili Melgar is said to be the nanny who worked looking after the couple’s children and who was fired by the footballer for being the one who revealed the infidelity with Clara Chía.

“You may wonder why Piqué didn’t pay her the severance pay? Basically, it was because Lili Melgar was in charge of opening Shakira’s eyes and making her aware of Piqué’s misdeeds; when he found out, he fired her and refused to pay her severance”, says a thread that was published on the social network ‘X’.
