Aussie shoppers have discovered that a $29.99 perfume by Ariana Grande smells nearly identical to a $744 designer fragrance from France.

The internet has been awash with high praise for Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540, a unisex scent with top notes of saffron and jasmine.

The only problem is a 200ml bottle from Mecca stores will set you back $744, which many agree isn’t a reasonable price point if you want to use it everyday.

A group of women in a beauty-orientated Facebook group have uncovered that Ariana Grande’s Cloud fragrance is a near-identical copy, and sells for $29.99 (30ml) at Chemist Warehouse and $49 at Priceline.

Since identifying the similarities the Cloud perfume has been out of stock nationwide, making it very difficult to pick up the cheaper model.

‘Like an airy dream, Ariana Grande Cloud is a creamy, soft and luxurious perfume with a high-class scent. Fresh and uplifting bergamot orange, rich lavender and juicy pear create a bright opening. Whipped crème de coconut, sweet Praliné and dark, mysterious vanilla create a memorable heart,’ the perfume bottle reads.

‘I cannot express how much I love the smell of Ariana Grande’s Cloud perfume. It’s the best thing to happen since Curious by Britney Spears came out. It smells like a mixture of heaven and rainbows,’ one woman commented.

‘I get countless compliments every time I wear it! Ariana Grande Cloud perfume has been a favourite. I love it,’ said another.

A third added: ‘Ariana Grande Cloud is bang on and you can drench yourself in it cause it’s so cheap’.

Ariana’s fragrance has the same staying power and similar ingredients to Baccarat Rouge 540, which is described as supremely ‘sexy but with the price tag of a mortgage repayment’.

At Priceline, where it is currently sold out online, Cloud ranked fifth out of all of the scents on offer at the stores between January and December 2021.

Ariana’s Ari scent was the most popular for the year and her EDP Sweet Like Candy rounded out the list at number 10.

Jimmy Choo’s Blossom ranked second, followed by Katy Perry’s Killer Queen, Guess’ Seductive, Jimmy Choo EDT, Estee Lauder’s Youth Dew, Beckham’s Intimately Men and Beyonce’s Heat Rush.
