Sibling rivalry can be fierce at the best of times, with brothers and sisters competing throughout their lives to be more successful than each other in any number of fields.

But for brothers and sisters in the entertainment industry, the competition may be even more aggressive, as siblings compete for notoriety, success and public favour as they battle to become the most famous.

The American Psychological Association defines sibling rivalry as ‘competition among siblings for the attention, approval, or affection of one or both parents or for other recognition or rewards, such as in sports or academics’.

But when public opinion is also at play, another element of competition is brought into the arena. And in almost every case, one sibling ends up being significantly more well-known than the other.

Just this week, Jamie Lynn Spears has come under fire as she enters the I’m a Celebrity jungle, claiming she’s best known for being an actress and singer – and making no mention of her superstar sister Britney Spears.

Britney fans were up in arms as her younger sibling discussed her modestly successful career, which included the lead role in Nickelodeon show Zoey 101, without noting that a whole cohort of people know of her by association as the younger sister of the pop sensation.

Here, FEMAIL looks at some of the siblings who work in the same industry, but haven’t quite reached the same dizzying heights as their very famous loved ones…

Jamie Lynn Spears (pictured while appearing on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!) is the younger sister of Britney Spears

While her younger sister has enjoyed some success when it comes to acting and music, Britney (pictured in 2016) has experienced an iconic career

At the height of her fame in the late nineties and noughties, Britney Spears was one of the world’s biggest megastars.

As the details of the her life over the last two decades have unravelled – including the details of the restrictive conservationship under which she lived, her life seems less than appealing.

However, there may be one person who hankers over the positive aspects of Britney’s success – her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears.

Jamie Lynn has enjoyed some success in both the acting and music worlds, playing Zoey Brooks on the Nickelodeon teen sitcom Zoey 101 (2005–2008). She has since reprised the role in sequel film Zoey 102 (2023).

Jamie also won the role of Noreen Fitzgibbons on Netflix romantic drama Sweet Magnolias (2020–present).

Jamie Lynn was the subject of media scrutiny in December 2008 when she announced her pregnancy at just 16-years-old, and following the birth of her baby, she stopped acting for five years.

She has also enjoyed some success in the world of music, with her debut single released in 2013, How Could I Want More, and her album Journey in 2014.

She is currently starring on ITV’s reality television show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

However, despite this recognition, her career does not come success to the iconic portfolio of sister Britney – and more sadly, the siblings do not have a good relationship, thought to be largely due to issues around the conservatorship.

Anton Ferdinand

Former footballer Anton Ferdinand (pictured while playing for St Mirren) experienced a successful career – but is less well known than his brother Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand (pictured) played for West Ham United and Manchester United during his career, as well as England

Anton Ferdinand’s footballing career has been a roaring success by all accounts – but he hasn’t been quite as successful as his brother Rio, who is a household name.

Anton’s accomplishments include playing for teams including West Ham after rising up through the club’s academy, and St Mirren.

Other squads in his portfolio include, Queens Park Rangers, Sunderland, Bursaspor, Antalyaspor and Reading.

However, he is less well-known than his brother Rio Ferdinand, who played for West Ham and Manchester United at club level, and also has an impressive 81 caps for England.

During his career, Rio played alongside the likes of David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen – and was even selected as England’s captain for a time.

Since retiring from professional football, Rio has carved out a successful career as a pundit, and he has also married reality TV star Kate Ferdinand.

Robyn Lively

Thespian Robyn Lively started working as a child, and has racked up some impressive roles throughout her professional life

However, Robyn has not achieved the same level of acclaim as Blake (pictured) who is extremely famous

Another pair of thespian siblings, who have not reached the same levels of public notoriety are Robyn and Blake Lively.

Blake, 36, is married to actor Ryan Reynolds, with whom she shares four children.

And as well as her famous spouse, she is well known for her own career, which features a number of high profile roles.

Among the most famous is her role as Serena in Gossip Girl, as well as her performances in The Town, and Green Lantern.

Meanwhile, her sister Robyn Lively, 51, is also an actor, but one who has not earned the same recognition.

This is despite roles in some highly popular productions, including Punky Brewster, The Wildcats, and Karate Kid III.

Although there is a 15-year age gap between the sisters, they are incredibly close.

Speaking to Fox News, Robyn said the age difference was ‘almost non-existent’ because Blake is a mother.

‘We have so many similarities. Our relationship is on a deeper level. We used to help each other with our projects and lines, things like that. Now we’re doing the mom thing together.’

Luke Hemsworth

Luke Hemsworth (pictured with his wife Samantha Hemsworth) has enjoyed success in his acting career – but less success than his brothers

One of Luke’s acting siblings is Chris Hemsworth (pictured). He has enjoyed huge success, and roles like Thor

If the surname Hemsworth sounds familiar, that’s because there is not one, but three famous brothers with the moniker.

The three Aussie siblings, Liam, Chris, and Luke are all known by the public – though not to the same extent.

Liam is best known for The Hunger Games series film franchise (as well as his previous marriage to Miley Cyrus), and roles in The Witcher, Expendables 2, and Independence Day: Resurgence among other movies and TV shows.

Chris Hemsworth is also known for a number of roles, none of which are more iconic than Marvel’s Thor.

Meanwhile, Luke – who is the oldest brother – is best known for his role as Ashley Stubbs in the sci-fi series Westworld, as well as for performances in other TV series like Neighbours and Last Man Standing.

However, as might well be expected, they don’t all have equally successful profiles.

And this has caused problems between the brothers in the past, when they were children, according to Liam, speaking on The Graham Norton Show several years ago.

He admitted that there had ben some ‘vicious’ squabbling between the three boys when they were young – but that the worst of it was now past.

According to Liam: ‘Because Chris and my other brother Luke had done acting before I started I could always go to them for advice.

‘There was rivalry when we were younger only because I was the younger brother and always wanted to do whatever Chris was doing.

‘Our childhood rivalry was a bit vicious – a bit like the Hunger Games actually.’

Jobe Bellingham

Footballer Jobe Bellingham is snapped playing for Sunderland, after moving there from Birmingham

Older brother, also a highly talented footballer, Jude Bellingham is better known than his younger brother

While many siblings who share the spotlight are in the entertainment industry, others come from other worlds.

Among them are sporting siblings – including the Bellingham brothers, who hail from Birmingham.

Jude Bellingham, 20, is the best known player when it comes to him and his brother Jobe, who is just 17.

Jobe has enjoyed success given his tender age, having moved from Birmingham City to Sunderland in the summer.

Meanwhile, Jude has picked up a bigger profile due to his playing for some major squads.

Among them are the La Liga club Real Madrid, where he plays as a midfielder, and the England national team.

However, while big brother Jude may be the most famous of the siblings, there’s no doubting the talent and potential of the younger Jobe – and he may well equal, or even succeed, the dizzying heights of fame reached by his brother in future years!

Ashlee Simpson

Ashlee Simpson (pictured in Los Angeles earlier this month) had a music career like her older sister Jessica – but was never quite as famous despite having a passionate fan base

Jessica Simpson was hugely well known in the noughties thanks in part to her reality TV show Newlyweds

Jessica Simpson first rose to prominence in the late 90s, when she was a 17-year-old Christian singer.

Over the first few years of her career, she enjoyed significant success with her music, releasing multiple albums. In the early noughties, she then gained even more fame when she married Nick Lachey.

The pair became the subject of an MTV reality show called Newlyweds. In the two decades since, Jessica has retained her profile, with more musical releases, as well as clothing collaborations, and acting roles.

Meanwhile Ashlee, 39, had a musical career, as well as working in television. Her career faced a setback in 2004, when it was found that she was lip-synching during an episode of Saturday Night Live.

However, Ashlee has since remained in the public eye, and has produced music since.

Although fans and the media constantly compared the sisters, they claim to have remained cordial throughout their careers and have never been competitive insisting they are sisters first.

Beanie Feldstein

Beanie Feldstein (pictured) has enjoyed a successful career in performance – but many don’t know she is the younger sister of Jonah Hill

Actor Jonah Hill (pictured at the Don’t Look Up premiere in New York in December 2021) is a hugely successful thespian

Jonah Hill is a major name in Hollywood, with appearances in movies like Wolf of Wall Street, directed by filmmaking legend Martin Scorsese, and the Jump Street revivals starring opposite Channing Tatum.

But it may come as a surprise to some that he is not the only thespian sibling in his family.

His younger sister Elizabeth Greer ‘Beanie’ Feldstein – known as Beanie Feldstein – is also an actor.

She has enjoyed a range of roles, including Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), Lady Bird (2017), and Booksmart (2019).

Booksmart earned her a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress–Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.

In addition to that, she has also appeared on the Broadway stage. She made her debut as Minnie Fay in Hello, Dolly! (2017–18).

Then, in 2022, she played the lead role of Fanny Brice in the first revival of Funny Girl – earning a nomination for the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance.

As Beanie’s star continues to rise, she may be the lesser-known sibling who ends up overtaking her brother, having starred as White House intern Monica Lewinsky in Impeachment: An American Crime Story, which documented the 22-year-old’s affair with then-president Bill Clinton in the late 1990s.

Meanwhile her A-list brother’s star has begun to fall, after he came under attack following accusations of controlling behaviour by his ex-girlfriend.

Sarah Brady, who dated the actor for about a year in 2021, posted screenshots of text messages she claimed were sent by Hill, outlining his ‘boundaries for a relationship’ and branding him a ‘narcissist’.
