Years after Britney Spears was first placed in a conservatorship, millions of people watched from afar as she was freed. Since then, there have been concerns about things like whether her conservatorship was warranted and if she has seen her sons.

While it makes sense for Spears’ fans to be concerned about her future, many of them don’t know enough about her past treatment. A perfect example of that is the report that Spears, a music icon, was forced to undergo a procedure that resulted in her losing control of her lower body.

Did Britney Spears Lose Control Of Her Legs?

At the height of Britney Spears’ career, she was one of the most famous people in the world. When Spears was performing at the Super Bowl and selling millions of albums, it was easy for her fans to think that she was untouchable.

Tragically for Spears, however, that would definitely prove to not be true. Just like a lot of other people in the world, Spears went through some mental health struggles. Many people who’ve dealt with those struggles have received help and been able to continue their lives as is. In Spears’ case, however, she was famously placed under a conservatorship.

After principally living under her father’s control for many years, Spears began to fight to end her conservatorship. Several of Spears’ fans began protesting the pop star’s treatment. Finally, a documentary shone more light on Spears’ situation which put the legal battle over Spears’ treatment under a pressure cooker.

In 2021, Spears’ conservatorship officially came to an end much to the delight of many of her fans. By the time Spears’ conservatorship ended, she had lived under it for almost fourteen years.

Back when Spears was still fighting to be freed, she made a series of allegations about her father. Most notably, Spears claimed that she was forced to have an IUD in her body against her will which meant that she couldn’t get pregnant.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Spears made another explosive allegation against her father. Surprisingly enough, most of Spears’ fans and the public aren’t aware of this allegation even though it is stunning if true.

According to Spears’ post, she was forced to live in a “demoralizing” treatment center for four months against her will. More than that, Spears claimed that during her four-month stay, nobody would tell her what she was there for. As a result, Spears says she came to erroneously believe she might have cancer.

As shocking as it is that Spears claims she was held against her will for four months without knowing why, the situation gets weirder than that. After being in treatment for a while, Spears says she learned she was supposedly being treated for depression.

The thing is, Spears says her treatment only made her depression a lot worse. If that wasn’t bad enough, Spears claimed that nurses saw her at her most exposed.

“There was a different nurse every day looking at me when I changed … not having a say on absolutely anything … depression is getting stuck in dark moments in your head … well … that whole four month experience amplified my depression by 100 !!!”

Spears also claimed that as part of her treatment, she was confined in a chair for eight hours a day. According to Buzzfeed News’ coverage of Spears’ Instagram post, she claimed being stuck in a chair resulted in her losing control of her lower body.

“I felt like it stunted my growth when I was there !!! I could only use my upper body because I had to sit in a chair 8 hours a day and gave like 8 gallons of blood every week !!!”

As bad as it would be for Spears to feel like she could only use her upper body, there is more to her claims. In her Instagram post, Spears wrote that she was put on “high doses of lithium” that had such a profound effect on her that she felt unable to speak.

The Things

Despite the physical toll that Spears said her treatment took on her, she wrote that wasn’t the worst part. Instead, Spears wrote that the most damaging part of her treatment was her family trying to convince her that everything that happened to her was okay.

“I wanted to kick and scream, all of it, but my family sat back and acted as if it was not a big deal !!! The most damage that was done to me is the sick psychology of my own family convincing me that I was OK with what they did … I deserved that !!!”

Did Britney Spears Have To Pay For Her Unwanted And Damaging Treatment?

Knowing what Britney Spears wrote about being forced to stay in a treatment center for months, her experience seems like a nightmare. Amazingly enough, however, things actually could get worse since the pop star may have paid a fortune for her forced treatment center stay.

In 2021, Spears got the opportunity to speak out in court about how she was treated when she was under a conservatorship. After Spears’ testimony, The New York Times published an article revealing what the pop star said. Unfortunately for Spears, that article revealed her contention that she was forced to pay tens of thousands for a stay in rehab she didn’t want.

“Over the two-week holiday, a lady came into my home for four hours a day, sat me down and did a psych test on me. It took forever. But I was told I had to. Then, after I got a phone call from my dad saying, after I did the psych test with this lady, basically saying I’d failed the test or whatever.”

Spears continued, “‘I’m sorry, Britney, you have to listen to your doctors. They’re planning to send you to a small home in Beverly Hills to do a small rehab program that we’re going to make up for you. You’re going to pay $60,000 a month for this.'”

While talking about her four-month stay at the treatment center where she lost use of her lower body, Spears didn’t say anything about money. Therefore, it is impossible to say for sure she had to pay for her stay.

However, since Spears had to pay for rehab, it seems extremely safe to say she also foot the bill for the treatment center. After all, Spears’ treatment seems way outside the medical norm, so it seems very unlikely an insurance company would pay up. It seems even more unlikely that anyone in Spears’ life paid for her treatment center stay or that being there for four months would be free.

In that case, there is one person left to pay, Spears herself. If Spears’ stay at the treatment center was as expensive as the rehab facility she went to, it would have cost her roughly $240,000.
