In 2009, Miley Cyrus sang an altered version of the lyrics to her hit song “Party in the U.S.A.,” saying “everybody’s definitely looking at me now.”
Miley Cyrus dealt with a wardrobe malfunction during her New Year’s Eve performance but handled it like a pro. The singer lost her top during a performance of “We Can’t Stop” on her NBC New Year’s Eve special, causing her to quickly improvise and change her attire while continuing with her set. As she strutted around the stage in a silver outfit, she could be seen holding onto her top as she sang the opening lyrics of “Party in the U.S.A.” Later on, during the song’s first chorus, she returned to the stage in a red blazer that she had previously worn earlier in the program. “Everybody’s definitely looking at me now,” Cyrus quipped, channeling the lyrics to the 2009 song. “I’m still in the most clothes that I’ve ever worn on stage,” she added in between lyrics. Overall, Cyrus proved herself to be a true professional and handled the situation with aplomb.
Miley Cyrus expressed her gratitude to everyone who made the show possible, stating that the night was all about being flexible and making the best out of even the worst circumstances. She encouraged resilience going into the new year. The New Year’s Eve party was filmed in Miami, as the country deals with the COVID-19 pandemic and the surge of the omicron variant. The entire crowd was vaccinated for the special, which aired live on NBC and was executive produced by Lindsay Shookus, with Pete Davidson serving as co-host
