Miley Cyrus gave a live performance of her smash hit Flowers for the first time on Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old singer gave a soulful rendition of the record-breaking tune at the invite-only event at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles.

Flowers, which became the fastest track ever to hit one billion streams on Spotify in May, is thought to be based on Miley’s doomed relationship with her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

Donning an elegant black minidress and matching gloves, Miley exhibited her stunning vocals while showing off her comedic timing with sly remarks.

As she morosely sang the lyrics: ‘I started to cry…’, Miley soon cheered her audience up, quipping: ‘I’m the CEO of my own company!’

She was met with laughs and cheers from the audience as she mourned ‘the roses that you left’ before cheerily adding ‘now they’re dead!’

‘Miley Cyrus vocals + comedy skills = the ultimate experience,’ praised one fan in the audience.

Despite the song’s record-breaking success, the event was the first time Miley has performed it live.

Miley also teased fans with an untitled new track, belting: ‘Don’t leave me high / Don’t let me down / Cause I want you more.’

Flowers is thought to be a dig at Miley’s relationship with Hunger Games actor Liam, whom she divorced in 2019 after eight months of marriage.

It subtly references Bruno Mars’ song When I Was Your Man, which allegedly is the song Liam dedicated to Miley during their relationship.

The pop song’s lyrics allude to her failed relationship with the Aussie hunk including a double entendre about Miley watching her marriage and the Malibu home they once shared ‘burn’ to the ground.

‘We were right / til we weren’t / built a home and watched it burn,’ she sings.

In November 2018, their home was completely destroyed as a result of the devastating Woolsey Fire. They wed a month later but split after less than a year in August 2019.

In addition, Miley released the very racy music video for the Grammy-nominated song on January 13, which just so happened to be Liam’s 33rd birthday – seeming to confirm that the song is indeed about her ex.

In May the song became the fastest in history to reach one billion streams on Spotify.

The singer shared her appreciation to her fans on Friday morning, captioning her video: ‘Thanks a billion. I love you.’

Miley released Flowers on January 12 and broke the Spotify record in 112 days, according to Billboard. It hit 96million plays in just one week after its release.

The song was number one on Billboard’s Hot 11 chart for eight nonconsecutive weeks.

Miley and Liam dated on-off for nearly a decade after meeting on set of their film, The Last Song (2010), when she was just 17 and he was 19.

In September, Miley recalled her ‘undeniable chemistry’ with the actor as they filmed the coming-of-age drama, based on the novel by Nicolas Sparks.

‘I think one of the elements that made that movie feel so special was it was watching two very young people fall in love with each other, which was happening in real time and in real life,’ she continued.

‘That was the beginning of a ten-year relationship.’

Since Liam, Miley has dated Kaitlynn Carter and Australian singer Cody Simpson.

Miley founded non-profit organisation The Happy Happie Foundatio in 2014 to rally young people to fight against injustice, focusing on youth homelessness and the LGBTQ community.
