The 43-year-old is perhaps the most unlikely leading man to segue seamlessly into a role in a caring profession.

It stretches the realms of acting credibility, surely even the most imaginative film goer won’t buy the tough nut as as tender physician?

One can only imagine the bedside manner perfected by our Jase, the only boost his characters would usually bring to the table is the ability to secure you a moody iPod to while away the time confined.

After all, this is an actor prepared to do most of his own stunts, and thanks to his background in athletics and martial arts, he does them comfortably.

A thief who lives by a code of honour that includes never stealing money from people who need it, but a thief nonetheless.

Statham plays the lead role Parker.

The criminal antihero was previously played by Mel Gibson in 1999’s Payback and by Lee Marvin in 1967’s Point Blank.
