Taylor Swift Auditioned For Les Misérables With Eddie Redmayne
“I’d just been to Pizza Express beforehand and I’d had some garlic dough balls. I thought we were going to be singing off with each other you know…it was so weird because Taylor was dressed fully as Éponine and I was like in my tracksuit. They had us on the floor like singing Sweet Nothings into each other and all I knew is I just had garlic breath.”
Swift was surprised by this information as well, saying that she saw Redmayne weeping during the scene and she assumed it was because of how she looked. Taylor Swift did not appear in the film and her role as Éponine was played by Samantha Barks. However, Swift did appear in Tom Hooper’s next musical, the disastrous Cats.

Then they had to perform the scene where Éponine dies in the arms of Redmayne’s characters and it was just awkward. Redmayne too recounted the incident,

“I once died in [Eddie Redmayne’s] arms in a screen test for Les Mis. Basically, I was auditioning for two roles in Les Mis and had gone to New York…I think it had been established that I had more of a look of Cosette but I had the range vocally of Éponine so it was established that I was there for a good time not a long time. I wasn’t going to get this role but they were like, ‘Do you want to come to London for one last screen test, you’ll get to screen test with Eddie Redmayne?’ I’m like this seems like an experience I want to have in my life.”
Swift said that she was a fan of Redmayne, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Theory of Everything. The singer mentioned that they had a strange audition as she had to get into her costume as Éponine, who had dark circles and brown teeth. Swift revealed that once Redmayne entered the office she had to awkwardly talk to him with her mouth closed as the team had painted her teeth brown.
