While his name has been tarnished by his own actions in recent years, there was a time when the name Will Smith was widely respected and loved by everyone in the industry as well as by the public. And clearly, he reciprocated that love by giving out some of the most entertaining performances his fans and the audience had ever seen. But when he became the blue Genie in 2019’s Aladdin, people couldn’t realize that the blue face they were seeing on screen was not Smith the entire time.
“A lot of people don’t even recognize this, but the Genie is 100% CGI, people look at it and they think it’s my face blue and it’s my body. The Genie is 100% CGI. There is none of me in the Genie, right? So it’s like the work was so good that they don’t even get credit for it.”
Although it might be a little shocking to know that it wasn’t Smith as the loveable supernatural being, his contributions to the film were definitely what made it reach a staggering $1.05 Billion revenue figure at the box office.

Recreating the tales of the classic Arabian Nights in the form of a live-action adaptation, Aladdin tells the tale of the titular protagonist, who falls in love with Princess Jasmine of Agrabah. When he visits her palace, he unintentionally finds a magic lamp, which contains a supernatural being called a Genie that has the ability to make any wish come true. As the bond of friendship between Aladdin and Genie deepens, they soon embark on a quest to stop the evil sorcerer Jafar, who wishes to overthrow the rule of Jasmine’s father.
