Doja Cat has opened up about how she feels about her online spat with fans last month on her Instagram account which left her with hundreds of thousands of ‘Kittenz’ hitting the ‘unfollow’ button.
The singer, who’s birth name is Amala Dlamini, 27, stated on her Instagram stories that she feels ‘free’ after reportedly losing over 250,000 Instagram followers after she ripped supporters for their ‘creepy’ fan accounts last month.
‘Seeing all these people unfollow me makes me feel like I’ve defeated a large beast that’s been holding me down for so long,’ Doja Cat wrote in her Instagram Story.
‘…It feels like I can reconnect with the people who really matter and love me for who I am and not for who I was. I feel free.’
The Grammy-winning artists’ comments were posted on her Instagram Stories alongside a photo of the road, as she appeared to be heading to an unknown destination as she shared the post with her 25.1 million Instagram followers.

Doja Cat’s revelations on her Instagram Stories were in response to the controversy she caused last month when she snapped back at her own fans for having ‘creepy’ social media accounts on various social media platforms devoted to her.
The 27-year-old went on a social media tirade in a series of since-deleted tweets, targeting her fans who label themselves ‘Kittenz’.

‘My fans don’t get to name themselves s***. If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or f****** ‘kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house,’ the rapper wrote.
The singer even responded to several of her fans’ replies to the since-deleted tweet. She notably told one user off for using her “government name” as their social media handle.
‘you making my government name your sn [screenname] is creepy as f—k,” she tweeted, but later deleted.
Doja Cat also encouraged her owns fans to “delete” their social media accounts that reference her in any way.
‘Just delete the entire account and rethink everything it’s never too late,” the 27-year-old replied in response to a user who asked her what they should rename their twitter account as since she (Doja Cat) ‘didn’t like the term kitten.’
Since her Twitter Tirade, the Grammy-winning artist has lost over 250,000 followers on Instagram, according to analysis from Hype Auditor.
In addition, three notable Doja Cat Fan Twitter Accounts: The Kittens Room, Doja HQ, and Doja Cat News, all deactivated their accounts on the platform.

Doja Cat’s latest controversy isn’t the first time that she’s lost social media followers due to a controversy she caused.
In August 2022, the 27-year-old lost nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram after she slammed Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp, 18, for sharing their private DMs in a since-deleted TikTok post where the singer expressed romantic interest in Schnapp’s Stranger Things co-star Joseph Quinn, 29.
Doja Cat told her fans in an Instagram Live video that Schnapp’s TikTok post was a ‘snake s**t’ move.
The singer earned huge backlash from her fans for her reaction, mostly due to Schnapp being a minor at the time of the incident (Noah was 17-years-old when the feud between him and Doja Cat occurred last year).
As a result, Doja Cat proceeded to loose over 200,000 followers on Instagram while Schanpp gained nearly one million.
